I like Star Wars more than Star Trek, but I have to say:

Phasers > Lasers

Ha! That's cool. I had one of those hovering bikes (that's the best I can describe them) that Luke and Leah rode through that forest (ewok forest) while dodging trees in the movie. I think I had one of those droids that had on white armor with the mask, and Darth Vader too. I also had the Melinium Falcon (sp?) and one of those walking robots that had four legs and two laser guns on each side of its head that shot red lasers. One thing I've thought about after all those years, is would it be possible to build a real working light sabre? That would cut through solid steel? lol. I've got it bad!
Hovering bike = speeder bike
ewok forest = Endor moon
those droids that had on white armor with the mask = Hoth Stormtrooper/Snowtroopers
those walking robots that had four legs = AT-AT

I've always loved star wars and tolerated Trek. THing that kills me is the Trekkies get all wacked out about the technology and schematics and such. I actually had a guy who said Star Wars was weak because the "science" and technology were bogus.

Right like Warp factor 10 is real.

Shucks we've been looking for the answers to space travel and we'd just have to read an enterprise tech manual.

Trekkies....

Actually, Trek Tech (yeah that sounds weird) is a bit more (and I do mean just a bit) in line with actual science than Star Wars Tech, at least with respect to Faster than Light propulsion (FTL). Anyone know that while visiting the set of Star Trek The Next Generation, Dr. Stephen Hawking actually motioned to the warp drive set and said "I'm working on that!" (Yes I know he doesn't do much motioning of his own and that his computer actually said if for him, but you get the point...) IMHO, I find the Trek theories of FTL travel (warp drive) a little more fleshed out than Star Wars FTL travel (hyperdrive). The basic theories are similar though, somehow escape or alter the laws of physics so that the amount of energy you can produce is enough to propel you faster than the speed of light. In other words you have overcome the fact that as you get closer and closer to the speed of light the energy requirements to continue to accelerate increase at such a rate that you can't produce enough energy to accelerate past the speed of light, you just continue to get infinitesimally closer with diminishing returns in regard to acceleration per amount of energy input. Both great Sci Fi though. By the way, I'm a molecular biologist not a physicist so that's my basic understanding of things, might not be the first time I've been wrong about physics...

Now compare the posted stats of these ships to a Super Star Destroyer - like Vader's flagship the Executor.
Although there has been some debate on the true size, it is commonly accepted that a Super Star Destroyer is 11 to12 miles in length. (http://www.theforce.net/swtc/ssd.html#conclusion)

Thanks, but I only know the basics. My brother is a complete Star Wars buff and is a member of the local Star Wars fan club (Indy Knights). He has an unbelievable collection of action figures, and then I have a cousin who was an officer of Indy Knights - she has a tattoo of Luke's lightsaber on her ankle. Don't laugh too hard, she might kick your *** - she's also a former Marine.

There is a Star Wars convention coming to Indy at the end of April. I went to the last one that was here a few years ago, and I'll probably make my way to this one, too. If anyone is interested
here is the web site for it.

Sorry - she's married w/ 3 kids. Her hubbie is also an ex-Marine, and now he's a cop.

If anyone hasn't seen the new trailer, the new theatrical trailer is here and the new teaser trailer is here

For all the fanatics, the toys went on sale today - my brother had to go to Wally-World and get all the new action figures, but was ticked because he didn't get to Target in time to get their exclusive Darth Vader figure
