What are the dimensions of an Acre lot?

My yard back home was 100' Deep by 220' Wide.

My current lot is 110' deep by 80' wide.

Jamzwayne:

Thanks! Just got it last fall: 26 hp twin cylinder Kohler X 54" cut! I have a one acre yard on a hill and I HATE mowing the lawn (although I like it to look nice). The tractor frees up my time for things I LIKE to do outside. The color almost matches the Lightning.

if i remember correctly, an acre is real close to 200 x 200 ft.

so, 100 x 200 should be about half an acre.

and 100 x 100 would be a quarter. (but i suk at math)

then minus driveway and house and whatever. doesnt seem like that would call for a tractor, but to each is own. do what you want, and who cares what the neighbors think. plus, dont know if you still can, but i remember pulling some nice wheelies on my dads old snapper ride-on.

Get the tractor. My neighbors don’t have one, but a couple have come over to ask me to help them with things around their yards. I have a trailer and an aerator for it and those are what they general want to borrow. It took 2 ˝ - 3 hours to cut my yard with a push mower; now it general takes about an hour or so. Believe me, you will be the envy of the neighborhood.

We just moved into a house last september that I had built. No grass yet. We have just over 2 acres (198 X 450). I'm gonna have to rethink the planting of grass thing. Reading all these posts I may just have the whole thing paved over.

I have one third of an acre and started out with a 22 inch gas push mower. I then moved to a 22 inch gas self propelled. It wasn't long before I put a short 4x4 post in the middle of the yard and an eye bolt on the front corner of the mower. Tied the mower to the post. tied the safety bar down and let it go by itself. It wraps around the post approx 14 inches and cuts 22 inches so there is some overlap. I just had to do the edges when it reached the post. Two years of that and I moved to a small Sears riding mower. I too felt it was overkill, but I can do the grass in 20 minutes now so who cares what it looks like.

Get the tractor. Also get a giant viking hat with huge horns and an alarm clock and chain to wear around your neck as a pendant (like Flavor Flav)...wear this stuff while you mow the grass.

The neighbors will give you looks, but you will know it's not because of the tractor.

Who cares what the neighbors think?
NOT I, says the Matt!
If it bothers them that bad they can come mow it for me... LOL

When I bought my house when we first got married 10 years ago next month...I bought a 15 1/2 HP Craftsman 42" Deck, 6 speed manual trans axle... I mow two out of my 10 acres of Missouri rocks mixed with some field grass, alfalpha, clover, crab grass, & blue grass. Lots of hills and fairly steep inclines. Never flipped.. "Have came close a time or two, but was my own stupidity. Plus I pull a 22 CU.FT. yard cart and a garden disc with 8-20" disc. I have to rebuild the deck atleast twice a season,($80) the strarter every other year, ($90) New engine after it threw the rod through the side after 5 years...($800 new but found a used 18 HP twin cyl. "w/ forced air induction" "AR AR AR" $200)

I should have just bought a DEER to begin with...

My dad had a Murray from Wal-mart for several years with very little trouble. Now has "Lowes brand ???" for 2 years and is pleased with it.

Advise for your imanent purchase...
If you are going to get a yard cart or anything else to pull behind it...go with a transaxle...Hydro stats are nice and save a few minutes a week but are between $400-$900 to replace, depending on the brand and model. They are much weaker with very much pulling of anything it burns them up!
Second advise...
This is a purchase where bigger defiantly is not necessarily better. If you get to big of a tractor for your yard it can take longer to do the job... "I have taken mine in to do my grandma's yard a few times and it is a pain in the butt..." I'm lazy, but it is easier and faster to push hers.
