Ice Fishing rewards

On Feb 12th and 13th i went to lake simcoe ice fishing with some friends. Well today we all got together and had a fish fry of the best dam perch you could ever have tasted. We had many (150) and released many. We also had some venison stew, Elk burgers and various small rodents, ie: squirrel, rabbit, and 4 small grouse. needless to say we ate well and had many laughs. Just thought I'd share because it don't get to much better than this, good friends and good eats!!... !!!Thanks mother nature!!!

Sounds like a good time! Never been ice fishing but there are some who do it around here. Catching winter Kings and I'm not sure what else. I wouldn't mind a couple of Kings in my freezer, maybe I'll take up ice fishing!

Last time I went Ice Fishing here on Lake Erie, the ice Broke and me and about 13 other guys were flooting to Canada. That was about 4 weeks ago. I don't think I'll go back on the ice anytime soon, that kinda sucked not knowing where your going and if the ice was going to break in smaller peices. Took about an hour for the coast Gaurd to come out with there Helicopers and ice boats to get us all back on shore.

That would suck. Yikes Did you take snowmobile or ATV on the ice? or did you walk on the ice? Did you have to leave your gear behind??

We were taken out by a Snowmobile guys that work on shore to take people out and fish if they would like. Then when your done, you give them a call back up and they come out and pick you back up. We were abot a mile and a half out. The wind picked up when it should not have. They were only calling for 5-10 MPH winds that day, within an hours time it picked up to almost 15-20MPH winds. All of us out there knew we had to had back in, so we gave the guy a call to come out and pick us all up. It was to late, the ice had already split and half and was flooting to Canada. So the guys that work on the Snowmobiles called the coastguard, about an hours time a bunch of small boats that are ran by Big fans on the back, came out and one Heliocopter to make sure no one farther out was tuck on the ice either. They would NOT let anyoen take there gear with them!! We had to leave EVERYTHING! The two poles that I had with my freind and I and a cooler that was just filled with our favorite drinks! hehe. They said all the gears would not fit in the boats and they couldn't waste time to come back and fourth for out gears, so theres probably sitting at the bottom of the lake now! I guess thats the chances you take with Ice fishing, but it still sucks!! All this was casued by a bad weather forcast that said only 5-10mph winds when acually it picked up to 15-20mph!! (yeah we did make it on the news that night) lol

I would be pissed if I had to leave my gear behind. I could understand the coolers (so the lids don't fly up into the rotors)

Ice rods are some what cheap anyways ($25 bucks at Walmart) but it would still suck. Just be thankful that you did not ride your snowmobile or ATV out there. I could not leave it. I would go down with my baby.

Ice Fishing Awards

and what with this town being in AWARDs mode, this was the first thing that popped into my head:

We were out of beaverton, @ Floyd hales huts about 20 minutes from Orilla. Lake Erie is a dangerous place to ice fish. maybe 1-2 miles out and its okay after that your on your own. Lake simcoe is 16"- 26" of hard ice and no openings. I had a cousin that ventured out on lake Erie with his dodge ram pickup and he lost that and he and my uncle had to be rescued by the CG.
