im new to the site

i just got a 98 f150 rwd with the 5.4 l v8. im wanting to lower it a little and race it some. i like the idea of racing with a truck. its something different. i plan on taking it this summer to have my transmission looked at and get it DYNO tuned. im just wondering what kind of numbers you guys think i might be looking at. i will have true dual exhaust and maybe cold air intake and underdrive pulleys by then

Hi jarryd2018 Welcome to the forum. If you want more power for your truck try Troyer Performance. They have excellent customer service and Mike Troyer is the number one guy for tuning F150’s.

Stage 3 Performance Package for 1997-1999 Ford F-150
This package adds approximately 75-85 HP & 85+ lbs./ft. of torque at the flywheel

Stage 5 Performance Package for 1997-2003 Ford F-150
This package adds approximately 170-190 HP & 160+ lbs./ft. of torque over stock

Superchips Custom Tuning Xcalibrator for ALL OBD-II FoMoCo vehicles 1996-2005

The Xcalibrator is the biggest “bang for the buck” mod you can buy. Mike will do three in-depth custom tunes specifically for your trucks PCM code. His tuning expertise made my big heavy truck spring to life like you wouldn’t believe.

My tunes are:
87-octane performance
93-octane tow-preferred
93-octane max-performance

I can also re-load my stock tune at any time. It takes about 10 minutes to load a different tune and you can change tunes as many times as you like.

Call Troyer Performance and see what they can do for you

On premium fuel, 93-octane, you will get 30hp & 48 lbs./ft. more PEAK horsepower and torque at the rear wheels, and there are areas in the lower rpm ranges where the gains are more.

those are good numbers. ill have to do that when i go to get a dyno tune and just get it all done at the same time. im trying to get around 300 hp and 350-400 torque. i would like to be able to beat some mustangs and smaller trucks.

I would have thought that the hp and torque would be higher than that. When I bought my 2002 4.6 the dealer looked up the info on the motor and said that it had 230 hp. I know that they changed a little bit in the motors but not that much. Good luck with the mods.

were talking about numbers at the wheels not the crank. the crank always has higher numbers.

I though the '97 and '98s had 235hp and it was bumped up to 260 in '99 with the PI heads?

The factory will aways give you numbers to the crank.

jarryd2018, first off, welcome! I would suggest considering a tuner for your next mod. It's good value for the money and will allow you to alter some of Fords lack-luster factory tuning. I think a majority of us start of with the "three best bang for the buck" mods. That's exhaust, FIPK (intake) and tuner (tuning). Give Mike Troyer a call, he'll set you up. From there a lot of us end up spending a bunch more money. Being broke isn't all that much fun but having a fast truck makes it a little better.

Good luck. Have fun!
