Dan,
Do you drink? If so, I'll buy the beer, drive all the way to Georgia, just to fish some of those spots. That 8 lber was a nice fish. I am wanting...no NEEDING....to get my line in the water. Thanks for sharing.

jw: I might drink one beer a month and brown liquor makes me sick so no need for the "drink offer". I do smoke Cuban cigars though................................
Btw, that 8/11 was caught from the shore as the ground was too wet to take the truck down to the pond's bank. Hope to be going back to that "cotton field" pond in a week or two. My best friend meets me there after getting permission from the owner for us. He has caught three, 8+ lbers and dozens of 3-5 lbers out of that small pond. All were released back.

we have a 20 starcraft v hulled aluminum boat that we bought used. this is the second starcraft that has been in the family (the first was a 16ft fiberglass boat)
its used mainly for fishing on the st lawerence river near where it feeds into lake ontario.
the water can get pretty snotty up there, and this boat handles it very well for our needs (fishing).
aluminum is lighter (nice for towing) and for whatever reason, i have been told that as far as manufacturer warranties for fishing boats like this go, riveted aluminum traditonally come with a longer warranty than fiberglass.
we have a 90 h.p. mercury on the boat, and i know my brother has taken his wife and kid water skiing a few times with it, and it seemed to work pretty well for them.

A 90 would just about pull anyone up water skiing. We've pulled up an adult water skiing with a Merc 15hp. It was funny. I can't believe it did it. Lake Ontario has some HUGE lake trout in it.
did your parents get the house on lake anna?
if so get a good deep-v- huled boat
my brother has a weekend house on anna and he bought a brand new 18' bombardia (SP?) jet boat with a 210hp direct injection merc v-6 it will cruise all day on a tank of gas, can handle 6 people no problem and can hit 60mph. HOWEVER, when the lake gets rough which it does almost every day the slightly flat bottom jet gets beat up unless you are flying or going really slow. and it is really hard to park.
I wouldn't get a ski boat either since they too are very flat.
I think the best bang for the newbie is a used 18'-22' deep-v bow rider with either an outboard or a v-6 stern drive. (The v-8's eat too much gas) they are easy to park, can be taken from the lake to the potomac or the bay and will handle the chop better. you can also fish off of them no problem.
a friend of mine just got a 2004 (carryover) 22' cobalt with a volvo penta v-8 for around 22k I think his payment is about $150 a month.
have fun and good luck!
