Pull your pants up in VA

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginians who wear their pants so low their underwear shows may want to think about investing in a stronger belt.

The state's House of Delegates passed a bill Tuesday authorizing a $50 fine for anyone who displays his or her underpants in a "lewd or indecent manner."

Del. Lionell Spruill Sr., a Democrat who opposed the bill, had pleaded with his colleagues to remember their own youthful fashion follies.

During an extended monologue Monday, he talked about how they dressed or wore their hair in their teens. On Tuesday, he said the measure was an unconstitutional attack on young blacks that would force parents to take off work to accompany their children to court just for making a fashion statement.

"This is a foolish bill, Mr. Speaker, because it will hurt so many," Spruill said before the measure was approved 60-34. It now goes to the state Senate.

The bill's sponsor, Del. Algie T. Howell, has said constituents were offended by the exposed underwear. He did not speak on the floor Tuesday.

Spruill and Howell, also a Democrat, are both black.

Just underpants?

Does this mean that it will be ok for girls to show their brassiere off in a lewd manner and not be in trouble?

Talking

No, it means if you don't wear underpants you get off on a technicality. The malls will no longer be filled with colorful boxers on display. A new term will surface in Virginia, 'butt cleavage'.

I like some butt cleavage.

I took my son to one of his daycare mates 3rd birthday party. All the mommies were there, and there were two mommies that must've felt real frisky at chuckie cheeses, because they both had hip-hugger jeans on, and no 'discernable' underwear.

They sat at the little tables with the little bitty chairs (close to the ground). I just happened to be sitting in the booth behind them with my son~ when what to my wondering eye would appear? The top-half of two beautiful brown butts; and children everywhere.

My heartbeat increased while everyone else chattered. I rose in my seat- and pondered reaching over and patting them.

I wasn't the least bit offended; and my wife didn't even notice, so I got quite an eye full, for an extended period of time. Those girls (women) knew what they were doing- undoubtedly they could feel that cool air on their rears. And, if they ouldn't feel the cool air, they certainly felt my hot stare.

I'm down for a free peep show, but I'm sure at least one mom there didn't want to see, or want their child to see not one, but two exposed butts.

Now, with guys- I'm GLAD-GLAD-GLAD they passed the law. I hope it passes in all 50 states. (Of course that law hasn't gotten past VA's senate yet; but it does send a message).

Saggin' that looks so stupid to me. Pull your pants up homies... I'm not interested in seeing your "draws" or lack thereof.

You'd love some of the girls working at the daycare my son attends. It can be cute (I'm always up for a peep) but not really appropriate in a lot of cases. There is also the threat of someone not really built for "hip huggers" that'll wear 'em anyhow and that spoils it for everyone...

I don't think that it is constitutional to have someone make you wear your clothes a certain way, same as I am beginning to think that it isn't constitutional to ban gay marriage HOWEVER wrong it is. I'm totally against what they are trying to stop in both cases (there are a FEW exceptions...mainly one that are about 22 years old & generously endowed )

Bancho, I know what ya mean. There are quite a few hispanic girls/women that wear TIGHT jeans & SMALL & TIGHT shirts....they shouldn't. How they fit in those jeans is MIND boggling, it's like stuffing 2 silver-back guerillas into a Mini & letting them drive off.

I love a free peep show, and I agree about the constitution & dress code; but a line must be drawn when it comes to guys...

As far a the ladies go; they can walk around buck-naked for all I care. When I see them, they're nude (at least for a few seconds in my mind's eye) anyway.

Come on guys, I'm sure I'm not the only one....

I too don't like this on the grounds that it's unconstitutional IMO. I don't like seeing da brova's boxers either, but I think a public dress code is a bit draconian. I'm also not willing to give up MY freedom to show off my boxers if I so chose.

As far as Gay 'marriage', there can be no such thing. Marriage is between a man and a woman, period. If they want to have a ceremony, a civil union or whatever fine, but it]s not...and don't call it a 'marriage'. I personally beleive that to be a States rights issue and not really the perview of the Federal Government.

Male or female if I want to see your a$$ I'll ask you to drop trow. That being said I don't like laws that tell me how to dress. Heck people laughed at me all the time in high school when I (purposely) wore multiple different plaids or prints at the same time.

So, some Virginia legislators are "offended" by exposed underwear?

If I were a citizen of Virginia, I'd be more "offended" by this bunch of do-nothing legislators who, apparently, have no better use for their time (paid for at taxpayer expense).

People laugh at me when I walk around with my underwear on my head but, I don't care.

I'm making a fashion statement.

Joking aside, I think it's crazy to legislate against how somebody dresses.
If any person of any group, race, or whatever wants to go around looking stupid in the eyes of others, that should be their right.

Reading between the lines, and not wanting to start a race riot, my opinion is that these delegates are trying to get young black guys to dress a bit more conventionaly and not conform to a (probably negative) stereotype.
No doubt these delegates are of an older generation and despair of the youth of today (like we all do )

So after all that, if I really want to see your ***, I'll offer you to buy you dinner.

That about sums it up.

Raoul,

You'd get a better reception if they weren't womens underwear.

It's an old habit. Me and my buddy Burt, got laid off from our factory jobs and went to the unemployment office. The clerk asked us whether we was skilled or unskilled labor as this would affect our benifits. We told her we didn't know so, she asked Burt what he did. Burt said he stitched up ladies panties. The clerk said, "Well, that sounds like unskilled labor to me." Then she asked me what my job was and I told her I was a Diesel Fitter. She said that certainly sounded like a skilled labor job.
At that, Burt got all mad, jumped up and yelled, "Raoul, worked right beside ME on the assembly line! I stitched ladies panties all day and all he did was put them on his head and say, 'Diesel Fitter'! ".
