Truth About Global Warming

Ugh... everytime I read an article about melting ice caps and the environ-mentals blame it on the USA, Kyotot pact, possultion shrinking Ozone... I JUST WANT TO SCREAM!
http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/science....ap/index.html
Here's an article from CNN regarding it today.

Here are the facts. Plain and simple.

The Earth is at the end of an ice age. Meaning the world is going to warm up. That is what it has done for billions of years. That is what we are going through now.
There, isn't that easy! How many times have you read about that? Probably never!

I HATE AMERICAN MEDIA! everyone has an agenda.

I have said that for years. I have heard some people say:
"The ozone is being destroyed by Aerosol cans."
WTF?

Thats completely retarded.

You'll poke your eye out.

Aerosol cans that emit CFC's Cloroflourocarbonbs ...don't hold me on that spelling...actually do 'eat' 0/\3 or ozone. However ozone can actually be created and most aerosols are CFC free....styrofoam too.

Why don't ya'll get together and collect some facts that support your claims? Then you can have an article written about it.

I'm all for global warming, I think all Alaskans should have palm trees in there front yard! Yeah, I can finally get my pink flamingo and speedo!! No ozone layer, hell, at least we'd get a tan all year 'round! And we'd have a front seat to the naked girls swimming in the melting ice caps. mmmmmm!

Good point. I just figured since the scientists don't know what they're talking about, maybe someone should explain things to them.

even the presidency announced and gave proven facts to show its the earths natural cycle. and cows do more poluting with their methayne hydrate gas release from all the ***** they produce but i dont see a ban on cows happening. not to mention the trillions of gallons of methayne that leaks from the earths core into the atmosphere. and its greatest concentration/location is off the coast of florida in what they call the bermuda triangle. their working on ways currently to mine it cause one release of methayne from that area would supply the US for 10 years. and would even supply our cars. if ur worried about research and posting links u look it up we obviously know and beleive ourselves so if u need the facts u look em up.

I don't need facts. I'm more than willing to believe the factless information presented here.

The point is, most scientists do know what they're talking about. Only the few that spout manmade causes of global warming get any press though...

Cooling/warming trends happen. Something happens to cool the earth slightly, (i.e. major volcano, meteor impact fallout, etc.), so there is a little more snow and Ice. If there is more snow and ice, more sunlight is bounced back into space instead of absorbed by the ground. Snow and Ice have a very high albedo (reflectance ratio) Result? earth gets colder. When the earth gets a little colder, guess what--more snow and ice. More snow and ice? yep, you guessed it, the earth gets even colder.

Eventually over time, things will gradually warm up again. Numerous factors can be involved, for example, less plant life in a colder, icier world = more CO2 and other greenhouse gasses. Green house gasses are also naturally produced by geologic processes. Solar activity and output also varies over time.

A slight warming trend will reduce the snow cover a little bit, and lead to more warming, which reduces even more snow cover, which yes, leads to more warming. This is the part of the cycle we are now in. Look around, you will find that the late 1700's-early 1800's were considered a 'mini' ice age.

In the not too distant future, something will happen to start a cooling trend again. Remember when Mt. Pinatubo in the Phillipines erupted? that one eruption dropped the average global temperature 0.5 degrees Celsius for several years...

It's just the way the world works. It's been doing it from before we got here, and it will be doing it when we're gone.

^ OUTSTANDING.

All of that has an impact on El Nino, the jet stream, etc. as well, correct?

absolutely.

another interesting fact, the mini ice age that happened in the late 1700's/early 1800s I just knew existed, I didn't know of any known cause for it.

Just found out that in 1783, there was a Huge eruption at Laki, Iceland--pumped out 80 times more sulfur than Mt. St. Helens.

check out this graph:

Then again, in 1815, Tambora, Indonesia had a huge eruption that pulled temps down another 3/4 of a celsius degree. Also at that time, sunspot activity was at one of its lowest points in recorded history.

EDIT--Point I'm trying to make is this--Does man have a role in changing global climate? undoubtedly. Urban areas for example have one of the lowest albedos there is, they absorb much more heat. Yes, we contribute greenhouse gasses which warm the earth, but we also pump out tons of sulfur which cool it. Now the question is, in mother nature's grand scheme, do we really have that much of an effect when something like one volcano can cause such major changes in an instant? Form your own opinions, but I don't think so. One big volcano, that happens to blow at a cold spot in the solar cycle, boom, you've got an ice age.

Then that explains the screwed up weather we have had over the years. I remember as a kid, it would snow just about every winter, now we just have "cold spells", that involve a slight frost. I think that has to do with the change of the jet stream. If I remember corectly the jet stream has a lot to do with how a cold front reaches Texas. Now that it has "moved" or changed, the colder air warms up before it reaches this region.

*How far off am I?*
