Race for more lights on front of vehicles

For 16 years we owned a chryrsler aries K car station wagon it was a really nice vehicle and when we sold it it had 260.000. km we had really good success with the unit

and especially loved the headlamps after O.E.M sealed beam lamps were replaced we installed the H 6054 replacement sealed beams with the low wide angle beam pattern that are sold by canadian tire for about $ 18.50 each

These are an improved tremendous headlamp. and have a wide beam pattern that alluminates the highways and the R.H ditch area, and is good for areas where deer are present, on coming drivers do not dip their lamps at these sealed beams

Many of the newer vehicles now have added lamps on the front

If good quality sealed beam are used we do not need additional lamps supplied on the vehicles

If additional lamps are installed these must be equipped with illuminated on/off switches and called either fog or driving lamps

Installing additional lamps that cannot be extinguised at night ( provide questionable respect for the eyers of oncoming drivers?)

Many of the newer vehicle are equipped with lighting arrays covered with plastic coverings, these will fade and need replacing at higher cost to owners

high quality sealed beam
-----------------------------
Lets not forget that many of the good sealed beams sold for years
perform really well and are easy to change

and are afffordable

and operate as a stand alone lamp as 2 vehicle headlamps

offer less light for oncoming drivers to experience

WE are the seniors that do not replace their vehicle as often as others

My next vehicle probably will be an aluminum walker

cheers
BJ

Hmmm, I'm slightly confused by that but I see you have a bit of a foglight obsession.

Maybe if you hadn't sold your soul to the Devil it would have made more sense to me.

Joking aside Robert, what are you trying to tell us?

At last! Someone else caught the name! I made a slight reference here...nobody seemed to pick up on it. Glad to see another blues fan on the boards here.

Thanks for the discussion. much apreciated.

Yes agree fog lamps are cool as long as they are used in foggy conditions and then shut off at night when the weather is clear

My backgound is 52 years accident free senior driver

52 years experience in auto and Heavy duty mechanics and provincial vehicle inspection

With past responsibility for fleet safety, operator training
accident investigation for fleet of aprox 2000 units of various sizing

We all have a stake in highway safety

Question

How do we get drivers who have vehicles equipped with fog lamps to shut them off at night when the weathe is clear??

Have a nice weekend and best wishes thanks for participating in the discussions

The NTSHA and The D.O.T know about the ability to have a drop out feature on fog lamps on vehicles ie.

Fog lamps can be chosen from low beam via an illuminated switch
when the fog lamps are chosen and operator

selects high beam the drop out feature dis engages the fog lamps

and when the operator selects low beam again the fog lamps
if desided will have to re selected by the operator

This prevents the fog lamps from being left on after vehicle use
so that the next morning when the vehicle is driven the fog lamps will not default to on when low beam is used

It also prevents the fog lamps from operating when the driver has used them on low beam and drives into a clear area
and uses high beam

and then reselects low beam where the weather is clear

and vehicle arriving with this feature

Ol' RJ prowls *all* vehicle related forums (I've seen him in a few VW related ones) in his quest for us all to dim our lights for his sensitive eyes. If he had his way we'd be using candles with those huge reflectors like on *really* old cars.

While I notice some people go crazy trying to get the brightest lights possible in people's faces most of us don't. What he *really* needs to do is see if he can get law enforcement/inspectors to enforce whatever laws already govern vehicle lighting instead of crying on every vehicle related board he can. He has a hard-on for DRL's too.

On a similar note, foglights are dispersed and do *not* blind oncoming drivers. *Driving* lights, can blind oncoming drivers. They are two separate and distinct types of additional lighting (and are both legal).

People hypersensitive to light should probably try not to drive at night (if the problem is really that bad), and should probably invest in some of those wraparound windshield-type sunglasses the retirees are so fond of for driving during daylight hours.

(Now if ol' RJ would direct his attention to the people who intentionally try to blind others then come here to brag about it that's a different story and I'd take his side)
