I hate DRLs... however, I feel every car should be equipped with automatic headlamps.. I love this feature in my truck and previous vehicles and wonder why anyone in thier right mind wouldn't use it. Set it to auto and never worry about lights again. The other cool thing that I had with my old Clifford alarm system was it would also kick the lights on when you turned the wipers on... so if you need to clear your windshield, then you got headlights day or night rain or snow. Great concept. I just want to drive and not worry about my lights.

I also enjoy other that drive with their fogs on, 'cuz then I get to kick on my high beams hoping I blind them and they crash into something big & hard killing them instantly. THat's one less moron on the road. It's a public service. And kinda funny.

I agree, I am seeing people driving without their headlights on very regularly here. The vast majority of the people Ive seen that have drove at night without headlights are talking on their cell phones! As a law enforcement officer I feel Im doing my part in ticketing them!

And you think that will stop them?
You've got to shoot them!
Tell the judge you thought the cell phone was a gun.
(and try to get a different judge next time)
or shoot a bunch of them and tell the judge you thought you were in the middle of a gang war (and promise to get a new perscription).

Man, if I could take the law into my own hands for just one day...
and get away with it.

This last 2 weeks in California we are having a record amount of rain. I have been griping since Xmas about all the idiots driving in rain with no lights. You go to turn or change lanes and you cannot see them.
A new law went into effect on 1-1-05 that requires you to turn on your lights when you have your windshield wipers on. what a great idea! Now if we could get the law enforced, we'd have it made...
sdiesel316; keep up the good work!
If I were in law enforcement, I would only write tickets for the stupid violations; unsafe lane changes and left turns, tailgating, driving without lights, etc.
Good luck.

I second that. I love my autolamps. The only problem I've had with them is that my hubby would turn them off & turn the headlights on regular because my autos don't turn on the fogs. Ever since he got his Excursion he leaves them alone, his EX has them but they turn on his fogs also so he doesn't notice that mine aren't on when driving it.

Darn, 'fake plates' wouldn't work here in Virginia, we are limited to seven letters.

RedFord,

I was waiting for the past 2 weeks to see some enforcement of that new law. The Lowest Common Denominator (which for some reason SoCal has more than our share) didn't seem to hear about the new law.

It's probably a good thing I went the FD route instead of PD-I'd be doin' time by now!!

It's the HURRICANES that you get in the remaning 65 days that would make this "Canadian Dummy" much more nervous

A lot of the enforcement issues is the fact that the ticket is written and it gets thrown out in court because the driver says "oops, I forgot to turn on the lights and I turned them on as soon as I noticed." and some lame magistrate dismisses the ticket because the driver turned on the lights as soon as they were stopped. It gets very old. AS far as writing tickets for not having your ligths on while it's raining....I'm not getting wet so I can go to court and have the ticket thrown out. Besides that I haven't figured out a way to write the ticket and keep it dry and legible when it's raining.

a problem I run into in my area is due to poor lighting in the town settings. Street and parking lot lights are so poor in design that folks can drive for a mile and not notice that they don't have their lights on.

When are people going to realize that more outside lighting is NOT better and safer?

Rocky – I disagree with you 100%, at least with DRL they are somewhat visible, the days where it is foggy or rainy and people say “why turn my lights on I can’t see any better with them on”. They forget other people can’t see them.
I second that statement...how stupid can some people be?

I admit I'm confused on this subject.
Both sides make such compelling arguments.
I did the only thing I could to be safe and cool.

I run the rightside on highbeam,
I took the bulb out of the left.

Some of you folks need to learn how to read better. Making ASSumptions and then accusing someone of stupidity based on an incorrect assumption isn't a sign of high intelligence or reading comprehension.
