Strange Vibrations

Hi Everyone , I've got a 2001 F150 and am curious if anyone else has vibration problems at 65 klm and above . I'm aware of the Tie rod problems and have had one replaced - I've had the alignment done a month ago and went back for a second wheel balancing thinking that might be the cause - but it still exists. Anybody have any ideas ?

I had a vibe on my 99, started at about 40k miles. It started getting worse and worse. I still had the stock "badyear" tires on it. I had them rebalanced to no avail so I put new tires on. rides as smooth as glass now. The old tires still had plenty of tread so I gave them to a buddy for his chevy van, he said they ride OK.

EDIT: my vibe was at 70-75mph

what conditions does it vibrate? I.E. is it:

only in a certain speed range?
Only when gas pedal is pushed?
Only when coasting?
at all times over 65 kmh?
does it go away if you turn off OD or shift to a lower gear?

If you can answer these questions, we can probably figure it out.

At all times over a certain speed, independent of transmission gear: Most likely tire/wheel/wheel bearing issue

beyond a certain speed and torque dependent (accel or decel) and independent of gear: Usually rear end/axle or driveshaft

beyond a certain speed, but Gear dependent: Usually a Transmission issue

I've got a 2004, and diagnosing vibrations is commonplace in them. Here's some of the flowcharts for diagnosing vibration that 'may' help you; If you like I could email you the full PDF's of the vibration TSB's. They're for an 04, but diagnosing vibration is pretty much the same on anything....

You might have a bent rim. I'd have them checked to see if your wheels are perfectly round. Just a guess. Also, check to see if one of your brake caliper(s) are sticking.
