Ford Easter Eggs and other neat tricks

Hello all I am fairely new here, I have already learned alot, this site has saved me a lot of time on my own truck, hopefuly I have been able to of helped some people out too!

Now for this thread:
First for those that don't know what an Easter Egg is. It is a function in a device other than was intended by the manufacturer. They are usally placed there by a programer and is hidden in programing somewhere. They are ussally for entertainment purposes rather than a function but are fun to find and use. Computer programs are riddeled with them including Windows Operating Systems.

I have heard on here that there might be a few Easter Eggs scattered through out the F-150's programs. One rumor I read on here is that the digital odemeters display can be changed to a digital speedometer read out by using the trip odemeter reset button and they say it can do a few other things too. Though I have not found the thread that explains any of these or how to do them. When or if I do I will post it here ASAP. Again it's not usefull, but it would be a neat trick if it can be done.

Does anybody know how to do this or know of any other Easter Eggs Ford programers might of put on our trucks for us? We would love to hear about them or I will help find them if you do!

Have fun and happy hunting!

Just hold down your odo button while turning on the truck. It should read "test". Let go of button. Each press of the button will change to a different item.

Sweet!!! Thanks Norm! I will be playing with this the next time I drive it!
If you leave it on the speedometer funtion when you shut it off, will it remain that way next time you start it?

Alright I must confess I couldn't wait untill I drove it tomarrow to play with it. So I went out and played with it in my driveway. That is so cool...I did have to hold it down for few seconds after the truck started to access these features. But once it did they were a lot of fun! I do not know what part of the info that it gave me is for, or even what part of the abbreviations it gave me for it could mean. But there was a ton of useful info that I did know what it was and will be handy to know how to get to it in the future. Along with the way cool digital speedo and tach. I think it may have one setting that gives you the current MPG as your driving. Unsure about that as of now but I will play more later and find out.
Norm

Edit:
Forgot to mention that it scared the crap out of me when it first engaged and it went straight to the gauge test...All the lights came on and all the gauges pegged out....I thought, OH NO WHAT THE CRAP DID I JUST DO???? Then I noticed the odometer read "gauge test" Phew scared me for a second! LOL

It's been around for a while.

You have to do it each time you start the truck to access it.

If you want to crank you truck without starting it for troubleshooting or priming the oil filter, just hold the gas pedal to the floor. A fail-safe program wont allow it to start.

Thanks l-menace I not only saved that link to my favorites but I also printed both the chart on it and the chart on the link they provided. I will keep them with my truck budget and repair sheets for future diagnosis. Like they said if only it would shoot OBDII codes as well!
Any Ford Reps on here.... This is your opportunity for a raise or promotion if you present the idea to Ford to have OBDII codes in the odometer in a couple of years, yea buddy!

CrAz3D,
HMMM I haven't gotten that one yet. Anybody else?

lees99f150,
That’s also handy to know. I still have a little old school in me and with the old carburetors If they were flooded, then you had to hold it to the floor to start it. Now I know not to ever do that with this one.

Guys this is so freaking awesome, everyone here rocks!!!

Keep them coming....

Seat belts should be worn at all times while on the road! But here is how to deactivate that annnoying little dinging to remind you to wear it while your driving through the field...The following information obtained from the Ford owners manual.

[B](!)[B/] Warning this permanetley disables the dinger until you reactivate it by performing the procedure again.

Ford Owners Manual all rights reserved:
Deactivating/Activating the Belt Minder feature:
The Belt Minder feature can be deactivated/activated by performing the following procedure:

Before following the procedure, make sure that:
· The parking brake is set
· The gearshift is in the P (Park) (automatic transmission) or the neutral position (manual transmission).
· The ignition switch is in the off position
· All vehicle doors are closed
· The driver’s safety belt is unbuckled
· The parklamps/headlamps are in the OFF position (if vehicle is equipped with auto lamps, this will not affect the procedure.)

(!) To reduce the risk of injury, do not deactivate/activate the Belt Minder feature while driving the vehicle.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT START THE ENGINE)

2. Wait until the safety belt warning lamp turns off. (Approximately 1-2 minutes)

Steps 3-5 must be completed with in 60 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated.

3. Buckle and unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled. This can be done before or during the Belt Minder warning activation.

4. Turn on the parklamps/headlamps, turn off the parklamps headlamps.

5. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled.

After Step 5 the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three seconds.

6. With in seven seconds of the safety belt warning light turning off, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.

This will enable Belt Minder if it is currently disabled, or disable Belt Minder if it is currently enabled.
Then you do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around....

I hope there is a way, I dont want to remove the buzzer because its the same as the headlights and I often leave them on anyway but am reminded by the buzzer on occasion. LOL Once I install auto lights on it then it wouldn't be a problem to remove the buzzer.

I cant even find the little switch in the door jamp that I ussally tape or hold shut on my other vehicles to shut it up while I'm in it cleaning or working with the radio on. Or just listening to the radio while talking to a friend with the door open. Or listening to the radio while I'm working on something else.

Turn your key to the "run" position without starting it.
