Gallbladder?

Hello people,

Last Friday after work I started having shortness of breath and chest pain. I was not comfortable, but I made it through the weekend without going to the ER. I'm 37 and about 40lbs. overweight but otherwise 0 health issues. I went to a cardiolgist Monday. Everything looked normal, so she scheduled me for a stress test today (Thursday). It also looked good. I've been uncomfortable on and off since Friday especially after eating (haven't been doing much this.) I don't have much chest pain any more, but my right side hurts badly. I'm going for a upper GI and gallblader ultrasound tomorrow. Several people, both co-workers and medical staff, have told me it is likely my gallbladder.

So, my question is has anyone here had theirs taken out? I know it is ok for most, and a few people have some trouble with eating fat without it. Does anyone here regret having theirs out?

Thanks

I have a couple of friends that have had theirs removed...

Their first bit of advice is: "Stay near a bathroom"
(ie: when you go somewhere new, make it your first priority to find the nearest bathroom.. Just in case)

The second bit of advice is: "If you have the slightest doubt as to weather or not a fart is gonna be a wet one, just hold it in". You might just shart yourself.

They both had their chests pumped up with CO2 for the surgery. Go buy a heating pad because your joints are gonna hurt like a mother after the surgery when the CO2 dissipates.
They said the pain went away rather quickly though..

Good luck!!!

That's scarry I love a big greasy steak. I also have shy bowels. You know the guy at work that can hold it for 3-4 hours so he can use his own john? Well, I'm that guy. I can't go through many more days/nights like this though. Hopefully I'll have no change if they take it out. Has anyone not missed it a bit?

I had mine removed the week before a the big fall bike rally in Daytona 2 years ago. I am/was healthy as a horse and 37 y.o. Had come into office one friday morning and a while later started having intense pain upper right side just below rib cage. Lasted several hours and I then decided that I needed to see a doc. Something I hardly ever do other than my cheesy yearly physical for road duty.
Finally later that night I was having an ultra sound and I was full of stones. I had been passing one all day creating the pains.
I had the surgery the following Monday and it was the non invasive type where you get 4 small holes. SOB's waited untill nearly 5 in the afternoon to get me on a table and were pushing me out the door at 7 p.m. Worse yet, they put me under one time and then something arose with the previous case, so they brought me out and then dosed me again. I am 6-4 230 and drug free. Not something I enjoyed at all! I wasn't even concious when they sent me home.
I was out of commision for about 5 days and still went to the rally the next week full of staples.
Any lifting you do for the next 8 to 10 months will remind you exactly where your center upper cut was made just below the diaphram. That also seems to be the ugliest scar. I am very disappointed with the scar and hardly ever remove my shirt now. Might be a mental thing for someone that has never been sick or even broke a bone....

As to life now, yep, I visit a lot more restrooms than I ever have before. This disturbs me as I was one of those that waited to go at home and still would if I could. I spend a lot of time outdoors and I always carry 'paper'. I would rather go in the woods on a snowy day that use a fastfood john!

They will give you an option to not have it removed, but you will continue to create/pass stones and there is a possibility of the gall bladder becoming infected/diseased and making your health even worse.

Good Luck!

My mom had her's removed. She was sore after the surgury for a little while. And I will say she visited the restroom quite frequently. But after she had it removed, she has no more problems with it.
