Thumbs up Deer Hunting Thread

Greetings all!

Thought I would start a single thread for all of us to post our pics of how we did this coming deer season.

In Pennsylvania the rifle season starts the Monday after Thanksgiving, so look for pics after that from me, God willing! I have been out archery a few times, but came home empty handed...maybe I'll do better with a gun!

So, lets see 'em boys!

Best of luck, stay safe and shoot straight!

How come the season opens so late for ya'll up north? Down here in texas, rifle season opens the first weekend in november. I would have figured that because of ya'll's colder climates, ya'll would have opened earlier than us. Interesting.

No problem man. Do a quick search within the 'Questions About the Site' forum and you'll find several nice 'how-to' write ups on how to post a picture.

I read posts on here every day day I do not agree with and/or like. I just ignore them.
If you are opposed to hunting why not come out and clearly state your objections rather than making annoying and obnoxious comments?

Archery deer season starts in mid- December and ends January 31st. Archery javelina is also open for the month of January.
I start scouting for both very soon, I can't wait.

I agree. Besides he's wrong, hunting does take skill. I do not hunt myself but many in our family do. I remember many times my dad would go out and come back empty handed. It's not as simple as walking out the door and shooting an animal, they don't just stand there and let you shoot them. It takes skill, patience, and good old fashioned luck sometimes. You get tired, wet, cold, sore and occasionally you get to bring home a winner that you can be proud of and want to show off. Give-em a break jinjimbob, they probably don't agree with everything you do either.

BTW, very nice looking kills guys (and gals)

Gun season in Ontario was the first week of Nov. Bow season is until the year end.

Personally, this year, I got skunked, my father in law got a glove box special, (hack off it's legs and stuff it into the glove box). We got about 70lbs of ground burger out of her.

As to the anti's (I didn't read all the posts about it); do you think that the chicken, pork or beef you had for dinner, grew to full size and suddenly fall apart into supermarket prepackaged items.

To my fellow hunters, hope your season is better then mine.

I'll be on my way back home to PA on Friday to be ready for the opening day. I look forward all year to this day. I really enjoy being in the woods and getting to spend time with my dad. My brothers and I, they are in Indiana and Texas all try to head home every year.

Good luck all, I'll hopefully post results and pics in a couple weeks.

I've been asking around here where I live for anyone who may have venison they don't eat. We usually bagged three or four deer a year and then froze them and used the meat year round. I actually don't LIKE hunting - I grew up in Pennsylvania hunting and I swear almost every buck day was freezing rain! I remember thinking that my father stuck me up in a tree stand just to let me freeze to death. The poor man would come back from pushing them toward me and I'd already have given up and headed back for home! lol

Though I know populations need thinned regardless, I always feel like it's a bit of a waste when people just hunt for trophy. It seems sad to kill an animal just to take its head and leave the carcass for the landfill.

Talking Success!!!!

Greetings all!!!

I have returned from my hunting trip and had a GREAT time! More importantly I got to spend some time with my Dad and close friends, so it was a much needed break from my otherwise hectic life.

The hunting was tough, due to the above average rainfall we had food was aplenty, so the deer were not in there usual "hang out" spots. That combined with above normal temps and few deer hunters, made for some tough hunting!

But, I did manage to fill my buck and doe tags, and my freezer will be full!!!!

Here is my doe, taken tuesday morning, second day of the season, pic doesnt do her justice, but she was huge!!!!

and here is my buck!! not the biggest buck in the world, but for where i hunt, in Elk county, Pa. it is a huge buck. Mostly spikes and 4 points. Over the last 3 years they have implemented a antler restriction, must have atleast 3 points on one side in most areas, others must have 4 on one side. I think we are finally reaping the benefits of this and it shows! This buck was very special as I got it with my Dad, so he is at the taxidermist for a nice shoulder mount for my game room, man am i happy!! I got this one the last morning of our hunt, without further delay, here he is!!!

hey mad marty, where in pa were you? any luck?
