You guys are missing Jamz requirements though, the iPod isnt exactly small. If the woman is going to use it working out, she doesnt need gigs of music, hell she is only going to be using it an hour or 2 at a time and even a small player can do that. The best bet is get one thats very small with anywhere from 128 to 256mb of space. Even that size will hold more than 50 songs. I am no runner but I think I would rather run with something the size of a key fob than something like an iPod. After buying a couple mp3 players for my mom, girlfriend and sister I can say that all they care about is how easy it is to use and run with. For anything besides working out the iPod is great, otherwise its too big. Just my 2 cents.

EddyG88 hit the nail on the head.

I got one last night. I got the NOMAD MuVo TX 128MB.
On Creatives website it goes for $69.99. I got the exact same one at Wal~Mart for $49.99.

How does Wal~Mart do that?

I agree with Eddy, for the hour and a half I spen working out a few times a week, a small cheap one works great, mine is 128MB and expandable. I think if you get a small one instead of an iPod, make sure it has expandable memory, that way she can add more memory if she finds that the 27-35 songs that 128MB holds isn't enough. I'm going to throw another 512 into my RCA lyra so I won't have to change out the songs as much when working out. If I had it to do over I might go with a mini iPod (for my uses) but since I've got the Lyra, its just easier and cheaper to add a 512 MB chip.

iPod mini people. 4oz and you can get an arm band. You don't even know its there.

My beef with the little guys that hold the 50 songs is I'm constantly having to hook it to my PC to switch out songs. That blows. Gimmie the mini that I can program all my playlists or just let it choose songs from about the 1,000 that would be on there...

And if Jamz's little lady is like me, she ain't gonna wanna take it from her gym bag every friggen' day to recharge it. Once charge a week.. ahhhh...

My son has had a Nomad II for two years now without any problems. He uses it several times a week while working out and running. It has been dependable.

How does Wal~Mart do that?

They squeeze US suppliers until the either go bankrupt or move their operations off-shore to cut costs. In the case of Rubbermaid, they sqeezed them so hard that they went from being a solid company to a shell in less than 5 years. They closed down much of their US manufacturing and auctioned off their equipment to Chinese firms that use it to provide low cost plastics to Wal Mart!

So keep shopping their and enjoying your savings while the Chinese continue to take away American jobs. Those Waltons ... they're nothing but a bunch of Patriots!

Problem with Ipod is that it was designed with a MAC in mind, NOT Windows. It's the only problematic USB device I own. Coincidence? Doubtful. IMO, the problem with the Itunes software is that it's TOO simplistic, allows limited "flexibility".

IMO, the simpler the better. I organize music folders the way I want, and simply drag and drop them into my Iriver Ipod equivalent.

My iPod has never failed me with my XP machine. Using firewire, of course.

You know, as much as I like the *idea* of that Sony, I really wish they'd give it a color screen.... Kinda like the new version of what I got...

I was doing a little digging earlier today and I think that Sony has a color screen version available in japan but not the USA yet, I'm sure they will launch it if this one sells well, just like they came out with the ATRAC version before the MP3 capable version. With all due respect to Apple, they had better watch their butts looks like Sony wants the portable audio crown back.

On a related note I saw an oakley mp3 player integrated into the sunglasses frame in circuit city the other day. looks stupid and it will probably break easily (like anything made of that cheap crappy "o-matter" plastic) but its a cool idea.
