What's your favorite dish?
This time of the year, I go to the "wild side". Fried Pheasant and Quail with mashed potatos and white gravy with dinner rolls works well around here.
The other favorite this time of year is "fried" turkey. There is absolutely NO comparison in flavor and taste to a fried vs. baked turkey. While doing some "experimenting" after I removed a turkey last year, I decied to fry some deer steaks. WOW...I couldn't believe what I was eating. I was so impressed I bought some ribeyes to do the same. Now at this point I am sure many are chuckling or maybe even rolling on the floor and this "hick's" thoughts on cooking. Well be that as it may....don't knock it till you've tried it. I am a steak lover but I have never ate a steak with as much flavor and as tender as one that was marinated overnight, rubbed with some fixins, dropped into 325 degree peanut oil, at which point it becomes completely seared, retaining all it's juices, marinades and rubs then cooked for about 4 to 5 minutes. Life is good!!!

Breakfast
A plate full of buttered & lightly salted grits, with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patties and toast.
Lunch and or Dinner-
Baked or broiled chicken, with mushroom gravy over rice.
(Or, substitute a plate full of fried catfish filet)
A plate full of collard greens with pepper seasoning and some hot-water cornbread.
Stuffing, or as we southerners call it: "Dressing".
Sweet potato pie (My mother in law makes the best sweet potato pie you ever wrapped your lips around).
And a hefty slice of Jelly-Cake, 3-layers....
I know many of you won't know anything about Jelly cakes, but back in Louisiana my Grandmother and Great Aunt's used to bake 3-layered jelly cakes, out of those home made preserved jellies. It may sound funny to you, but you'd eat that cake so hard- you'd be biting your own fingers, and not get mad about it.
Thanksgiving/Special Occasions
Everything above, then add-
Candied yams
Lemon pie
Pound cake
Fried Turkey (Man, if you ever have fried turkey, you won't want another baked one)
Potato salad
Garden Salad
Then, the finale: The Cowboys game on my 65" Mitsubishi wide-screen HDTV!

grits are basically ground corn (the above link has more detail) and are boiled. they are similar in consistency to cream of wheat (if you have ever had that) but not as soupy and are not flavored sweet. Salt, pepper, and buter are usually added to grits to give them some taste but as above some make them with garlic and cheese added. Again, disclaimer, I'm a yankee so this is just what I know about grits, I'm sure somewhere there is an angry southerner reading this...
