According to Automotiveforum.com it's :

"F" = Ford pick up
"E" = Econoline (van)
"150" = 1/2 ton payload
"250" = 3/4 ton "
"350" = 1 ton "

Is it that simple? Really? Thats kind of disappointing ........LOL......not to spread myth, i have no clue, but i once heard they used to be called Ford Frontiers.............and just abbreviated the frontier to "F"-150. But that was just an extremely uneducated guess while steelhead fishing from a buddy of mine. LOL!

Farming.

Goes back to the early days of Henry Ford.
These pickup trucks were made for farmers.
First he designed the Ford tractor then the pickup truck to make farmerīs work easier.

Itīs somewhere on the Ford website, heritage section or something.
