Early pickups were F1's. Then F100 for the half ton. Sometime in the early 70's the changed to F150, from F100 for the half ton. Also, the Explorer was a model of the half ton pickup.

There were F 100 and 150`s from 75-82 and there were also F250 Explorers it was a stripe package.

This is from a sign that I have over my workbench in my garage-This is Ford country on a quiet night you can hear a Chevy rust.

Ever since I put that up my buddies with Chevy's don't come over much anymore. Hmmm, now that I think about it....

If I remember right, the f100 was the 1/2 ton. The f150 was a "heavy half", or 5/8 ton.
