Going to work for Ford...
Obviously all good advice. But remember one thing..you are one of US right now. Remember that when you become a salesman. How did you like to be treated? What did the salesman do that you liked or that pi$$ed you off. Be honest, know the product, and be fair. If you say your gonna give someone something than by all means give it to them. When I sell boats, I'm honest and give all that was promised. I make sure that when the deal is signed everything I promised and everything my customer wants is written in the contract. This way, when it comes time for delivery, there are no questions on what you agreed upon, and everyone is happy. If you told the guy you would give him that fancy new F150 hat, then by all means give it to him. That $15 hat could be the deal breaker for a long lasting relationship with someone who will trust you and eventually just come in and hand you a check without asking questions.
A quick story...In the past 3 years I have bought 3 cars from the same dealership, same salesman. One was my moms, we walked in, got rid of her VW jetta and got her the Focus (dont ask, I loved that jetta, just had some problems) anyway the deal went so smooth and painless, I was totally impressed. A month later I decided to trade my 99 F150 for my 02 GT. I did it over the phone site unseen. Deal was done in 3 days and I picked it up on the 5th day(sunday was in between) Again a flawless deal. I then ordered my 04 F150 over the phone with the same salesman, did the entire deal, trusted him on what my trade in would be on the GT and went to pick up the truck when it came in. Took a few hours to do all the paperwork and I was outta there. UNFORTUNATELY.. at that time there was a coupon for a free bed liner when you purchased a new F150. I inquired and was told he would look into it. I also needed some touch up paint. Days went by and nothing. I called numerous times and was told they were still looking into it. Days turned into weeks, turned into months, turned into 9 months later and still nothing. I gave up, it wasnt worth it. I will NEVER go back to that salesman again nor will I go back to that dealership. For such a small item (to the dealership) they lost my business. They could've forgot the whole coupon and just ate the $150 it cost them for the bed liner to keep me happy. They know I buy new every 2 to 3 years. They even joked about it and asked If they should order me the 05 mustang GT or the new Lightning when it came out. My point is this, like I said before, be honest and give the customer what is due to them. Even if it may cost you a little. If he would have split the cost of the bedliner with me I would have it in my truck right now. But for under $200, they lost my business and my trust. I will be buying my lightning at another dealership.GOOD LUCK
P.S....I still never got my touchup paint. Now thats just plain ignorant. I didnt even get any from Ford.
