He has freedom of speech. Nobody forced him to stop giving his opinon. No men came in the middle of the night and made him disappear. No family members are held hostage to prevent him from protesting the war. But the freedom of speech works both ways. The fans have every right to express their opinion of him as well. It is their right to disagree with him and to let him know they disagree.
And one more important thing. The 1st amendment only applies to the government, not to the people. This is why a company can fire your butt for voicing your opinion, prevent you from saying anything about them and restrict your means of communications. Same with the military, for which the constitution and bill of rights do not apply.
Fritz
Let us not forget that it's the fans watching the game who pay his salary. So he basically told his employers to F'off. He has the right to say it/express it but must live with consequences.
Freedom of Speech? Go to the airport and yell "BOMB", you have the right to say it but you must live with the consequences.
So someone threw beer bottles at him? If so then they must be plastic because glass is not allowed.
I don't get the arguement at all.

As near as I can tell from what I've read, He hasn't said a word about it unless asked. His protest has been a silent show of disagreement of not just the Iraq invasion, but of war in general. All this time the Bubya loving war cheerleaders have been howling for the protesters to just shut up, which is what he's done.
Just can't keep you guys happy no matter what, ay?

A couple of things first
1.) Freedom of speech does not allow you to say anything you want anywhere you want. It was designed to allow you to voice your opinion about your government.
2.) All entertainers should do their job. In reality, if any of us had a large audience, we'd be hard press to not use it. If I went to a concert and the entertainer said something once or twice, I'd get over it, if it was constant, I'd leave and not patronize the person any more.
That said...
Freedom of speech goes both ways. If you disagree with whomever, or decide to walk out, fine. Belittling the person by calling them un-American or stupid is NOT respecting their freedom of speech, and is un-American itself.

From what I read I think he needs to find a different way to protest. He ducks out every time the national anthem is played. Guess what? The war in Iraq is not all that America is about. By ducking out during the anthem he is basically giving all of what America stands for a big FU. It is completely disrespectful, and while I wouldn't throw anything at him or spit on him, I would definitely boo his a$$ every time he took the field. He plays for Toronto, right? Maybe I will go up to one of their home games and during "Oh Canada", or whatever their song is, I'll moon everyone.
Bottom line, I don't think that his way of protesting is right at all.

is Delgado even American?
I thought he was from the Dominican (even if he's a citizen now)?
If true, he is a Dominican, playing for a Canadian sports team, commenting on America.
If all of the above is true... then maybe he should shut up as it is not his concern (as long as he is paid in Georges and Bens)
besides... who they calling a power hitter? That bum is batting .2090 right now! Lazy, opiniated, overpaid bum!
and that's my $0.02
