Unhappy help! dont know what to do to truck!

i just bought my truck, its a white 2001 F-150 reg cab short bed, 2wd with a 4.6l V8 and a 5-speed manual. i live in a mostly redneck town, but the new import scene is getting to many, including my brother. i dont know whether to lift the truck up, convert it to a 4x4, and put some big tires on it, or lower it down and make a lightining look-alike, with a lot of custom touches to the motor. please help. thanks!

Well, it all depends on YOUR tastes, not others.

Converting it to a 4x4 is an insane expense and why on earth would you? If you needed it, you shoulda bought one! A small lift with larger tires will be fine on your 4x2. Just don't expect the off-road capabilities.

Agreed. Word of advice, if you go the lowered/"Lightning look alike" route DO NOT put Lightning badges on it.

How true... or those 'R' stickers, japanese writing stickers, or a wing.

Unless YOU really want them. Then go ahead. It's your truck. Do what you like to it. You're paying for it. Don't worry what other people think or say.

i think im gonna do the lift, im thinking of a 4" suspension lift, mixed with a 3" body lift, but im unsure wether to get 36s or 38s. i know a family friend who owns a junkyard, and he has a wrecked 4x4 2001 f-150, and its a manual, and hes willing to give me the truck for like 50 bucks, and my shop teacher could help me install them. is there anything else to do other than swap out the transmissions and the axels? ive had this truck a little over a month now, so help would be appreciated. also, i have some really cool cutom ideas, but ill post them on here later.

Anywho, tme1129 - try some searching around the other forums... I'm sure somebody has done a conversion before.

Welcome to the boards!

I agree that converting your truck to 4wd would be a costly way to go. If you wanted 4wd you should have just bought it like that. As far as lowering...I've just never been a fan of it but its your truck do what makes you happy!!

EXACTLY.

Your from a "redneck" town. Are you a "redneck"? Do what rednecks do...raise it up, put a reble flag in the rear window, and put dual antenna's whipping in the wind.

J/K

That is completely up to you my friend. What do you want you truck to look like?

WELCOME TO THE BEST FORUM ON THE WEB BTW

By the way pi$$y pants wing nut tme1129 DID ask for our opinions! And such were stated. So settle down beavis and answer the question that was asked.

MY OPINION is that I would raise it a little and only go to 33's or maybe a little bigger. you will only get less and less MPG the bigger you go.

As far as switching to 4x4 I do believe you might need a bunch of electronics and a different PCM. if the wrecked truck is the same model/year/engine as yours go for it!!

Also in MY OPINION I don't like most lowered trucks.
