Neither my wife or myself were cat peoples. (thats a movie inst it?)

Like you mentioned....you get what you put into the animal. Good point.
P.S.
People, dont listen to TUFFman, and throw animals in the air.

Actually...looking at the big picture cats are no problem, especially if you do alot of traveling.....just put out alot of food/water in the garage (if you have a doggie/cat door), some do like to use your couch as a scratching post tho...so watch that.....
Cats are very loveable, trainable, and loyal animals
Why, because the owner had tigers nuts cut off.
I agree with Burt, tape his legs together and use him as a door stop.

Cats arent really to bad-I used to hate them-now we have 2 little ones. When they are little they are awsome-funnier than he!! to watch-but when they get old they just take up space. Unless you get really attached to them.
I think besides de-nutting and spading-declawing is pretty bad
I would never do it. They just depend on them to much I think
Cats are awesome pets and so easy to take care of! When you have to go away for a weekend or even 4-5 days you can leave them food, water and a clean litter box and they're happy campers. Just be prepared to give him your undivided attention when you return because they miss you like crazy!! Don't get me wrong, I love my dog and would never give her up but when I go away, if she can't come too, its off to Puppy Prison with her. To the tune of $19.00 a day...ouch!!
The pictures of the declawing procedure are disturbing I agree but I've never been sorry that I had my cat declawed 11 years ago. She suffered no ill affects from it and it has sure saved my furniture over the years. While they do cut the cats toes off at the first knuckle its not like they just whack them off, its a surgical procedure and is done under anesthesia. Quite frankly, next cat I get will be an inside cat and will have his/her claws removed. I absolutely would never recommend it if the cat is allowed outdoors though.
As for advise on new kitty ownership...show your kitten where the littler box is every time he wakes from a nap, after playtime and right after each meal. He may not use it everytime but it will re-inforce the idea. They learn incredibly quickly. Also, I confined my kittens near the littler box at night for a while until they get the hang of the whole deal! Watch out if you have house plants, cats love to chew on the leaves of plants and many house plants are harmful, possibly fatal to cats. You can give your kitty moist food but I recommend it as a treat only. Dry food is much better for their teeth. Moist food promotes plaque build-up and they can eventually loose their teeth! Milk is another common misconception, people think cats should have milk and while it really doesn't do great harm it can give them the runs if they aren't used to having it. Cats digestive system has trouble with cows milk. Can't think of anything more right now...good luck with kitty!!

update
Well day 1 went ok. I ended up having to go pick her up myself, but it was ok.
Once she got home, she was really freaked out, and would not get anywhere near me. She would hide when I came close. But I had to get some sleep (I work nights) so I put her in a laundry basket with a blanket and she slept all day.
When my wife got home tonight, the kitty came out of her shell a little. She warmed up to me too. She even took a little cat nap on my chest. She was really cute pouncing around and playing with her toys.
Again, I am NOT a cat person, but she seems to be a pretty affectionate and friendly cat. That is what I like about dogs, so hopefully it will work out.
My wife says we should declaw her, but I don't think I will agree to that. I think she will be fine once we train her to use the scratching post.
We are having trouble picking a name for her though. At first glance she is totally black, but if you look close, she has really dark brown "tiger" stripes. I think she will be beautiful when she gets bigger. Any one have suggestions for a good cat name?
I'll post pics soon!

Congrats!! She sounds beautiful...waiting for pics. BTW, the freaked out thing is normal, she'll come around.
Here's a picture of my furball. Shiloh will be 12 years old this October.

I heard this one guy's live-in girlfriend got a kitten. They kept the litter box in the bathroom.
I guess temptation got the best of him. He just had to take a dump in the litter box.
His girlfriend went to clean out the litter box when he wasn't home and freaked out. She couldn't believe the size of the log the little kitten left. So she bagged up the log, took it and the kitten to the Vet. $170.00 later the Vet told her to keep an eye on it to see if happen again. No thing like that happened again.
They were married 8 months later. 2 years has gone by and the guy was feeling really guilty. He called into our local radio station asked them to help tell her what really happened . So they put him on the air and called her, needless to say she was very irrate not about the joke but the money spent and .... The rest is history.
All that I can say is "GREAT ONE!!!"
