Who wants to pay MORE taxes???
Anyone that wants to research the actual budgets over the last several decades can go to gpoaccess.gov/usbudget
Go to whitehouse.gov for 2003-2006 budget estimates.
Both sites have budget figures (about 300 pages per year) in dollars and percentages. It also shows the budget as a percentage of GDP (currently around 19.5%).
canyonslicker:
identify the prolem? Congress
real data? see above
obstacles? Congress (& the lobbyists)
who/how to get the word out to the American people? Some don't care, some have a big stake in keeping things "as is". The only way I know to change things is to replace your elected Senators and Representatives.

I used the data from 1995 to basically point out that “Welfare” spending, at least in 1995 did not include all the things that Bhibbs had insisted $66 billion goes towards. Below is the programs that $116 billion were spent on in 1995.
The Word document I have is from a year or so ago and it was copied and pasted from a web site. I did not put the website on the Word document because I didn’t need it. However I am not to concerned with “creditability” as far as what website I may have got it from because anyone is free to search the internet for 1995 “Welfare” figures and challenge it.
At the time I was looking for that information I was trying to find what the actual break down of programs were that fell under “Welfare” These were the programs:
Medicaid
AFDC (Aid to Families with Dependent Children)
Food stamps
Housing subsidies
School breakfast/lunch programs
Head Start
Miscellaneous programs
Now, as far as Bhibbs post is concerned they have added:
Agencies in HHS
Administration for Children and Families (ACF)
Administration on Aging (AoA)
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR)
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
Food and Drug Administration (Food and Drug Administration)
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
Indian Health Service (IHS)
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Program Support Center (PSC)
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
He has now changed it from “Welfare” because not all those programs listed have to do with welfare. Yes it may be true that in the above combined programs $66 billion has been spent, but he forgot to list (from his link) these as well knowing that they too have “Welfare” programs attached:
Housing and Urban Development $31.3 billion
State and International Assistance Programs $27.4 billion
Social Security Administration $7.3 billion
Other Agencies $16.1 billion
For a total of $148.3 billion, so it makes it a little harder to figure out just how much of that $148.3 billion is actually spent on welfare programs as compared to 1995 $116 billion
Few more interesting sites with NUMBERS to kick around:
Health and Human services = $502 BILLION
More interesting numbers that FAR exceed $66 BILLION

It's an acquired taste for sure.
I haven't felt this bad since when I had to stand in line for the free government cheese.
You might as well throw in the Military budget and the 300 billion we've spent on Iraq (with another 60 billion they need to vote for to keep the rebuilding efforts going). That's all for people's "Welfare" as well, right?
You're grasping XLT and trying to "pad" your numbers to suite your purpose. Just like providing numbers from 1995 to make a point today. That's deceitful. I agree. Let's try to keep the Credibility here.

No need to throw in any money budgeted for the military since that is mandated by the United States Constitution. I know your just throwing that out there anyway and not serious.
I am not grasping at all, nor am I trying to “pad” any numbers. I simply used a few examples and stated it is hard to tell how much money “actually” gets spent on “welfare” programs. Please re-read my last post and note that I stated ” so it makes it a little harder to figure out just how much of that $148.3 billion is actually spent on welfare programs”…
Then there is another site that shows $502 billion for Health and Human services for 2003 where your site, just as creditable shows $66 billion.
In other words the information I have from 1995 was at least itemized a bit better to see where the money was going now its like everything is mixed depending where you go to look for it.
Oh and NO! any money spent on Iraq is NOT for “Peoples welfare” it is in the best interest of America and our safety to our country as well as our children…
Do you not care about the children anymore?????

That's a matter of opinion. Just because you feel attacking Iraq was justified and needed, does not make it true.
The constitution calls for funding of the military for defense. Iraq was an offensive move.
I care about children, I'm hoping my grand children will not still be working to pay off the deficit for GW's war. So tax cuts do actually cost money when you have to borrow and pay interest on the loan.

Raoul-- You're proving the point. You have goats make you own cheese and sell it.
I normally agree with 01 XLT, but there are times when the military spends when it is not needed. I remember a few years ago, within 5, that congress made the Air Force purchase a few C-130's. the Air Force did not want the planes and did not need the planes(they argued the money would be better spent on needed spare parts and training ). Congress told them they didn't care. The Air Force was going to get some new planes wheter they liked it or not. So at times the military does spend money it does not need, but it is when it if forced to by Congress. Oh, the planes were built in a senior Congressmans district so he was doing it for votes.
Someone once told me that accounting isn't an exact science. I believed them (it was the author of an accouting textbook, but I can't recall who so don't ask). So I think nobody really knows what the gov't is spending, not even them.

Therefore Iraq still has WMD’s including chemical weapons that they were NOT suppose to. That was a bad move on their part and they failed to live up to their “agreements” to us and the rest of the free world.
Iraq was a danger to the security of our country and thus our military kicked their *** big time in a “defensive” move.
Oh, tax cuts do NOT and NEVER will cost us one penny. Spending cost money, not taken enough money away from innocent working Americans has NEVER added to deficits.
Our government has PLENTY of cash to fund ALL “required” programs like the military. If there is not enough STOLEN money to go around then Congress needs to cut and gut other un-Constitutional social programs…
Money taken out of my paycheck to fund the military is not stealing because it is mandated by the Constitution however the vast majority of the other money STOLEN out of my paycheck is just that, the government stealing from my pocket, taken food out of my child’s mouth, possible taken the roof over my child’s head away is just wrong, evil and down right theft…
Do you not care about the children of the working families?

Nothing goes better with a good war than a healthy tax cut. (yum-yum)
And if you can't see that then it explains why George W. Bush is the President of Meracur and you ain't.
And if you can't see that then it explains why George W. Bush is the President of Meracur and you ain't.
Even if you cut ALL dollars towards health and Human services including the CDC, FDA, etc. You'd STill have a huge Deficit.
66 Billion from 450 Billion Deficit equals 384 Billion DEFICIT.
Your theory makes NO sence.
Perhaps you haven't seen the news today either. SH had NO ties to Al Quaeda, They've found NO stockpiles of WMD or Nukes like our current administration told us.
You know why you don't hear a lot about that little Sarin bomb? Because it proves Nothing! It could have been from Iran, Syria or Anything. Far from a Mobile Weapons lab, or Uranium Cake for a nuclear weapon. You've been scammed my friend.
Sadly, this Scam is costing us Tax payers a LOT of money...
Meanwhile Iran HAS Uranium cake and the UN says They're not supposed to.
NK is selling misssiles and Uranium all around the world. Where's the real threat here?
None of us like to pay taxes, but trying to put the blame on the 66 billion we spend on Health and services when we're spending 400 Billion on our military every year and appropriated 85 billion and soon 60-70 MORE billion to rebuild Iraq when they Don't want us there and we now know there was No real need to Go there. Scammed....

This is one of the same arguments used before GW got in the White House about Iraq by most nations including this one. You can't have it both ways. Either you trust the sources you are quoting and realize that Iraqs WMD were either moved or hidden prior to the invasion or don't trust the sources and your current argument becomes ridiculous.

Scammed, that’s funny, real funny indeed…
Scammed is all the wasted tax dollars on education, it seems every new dollar increase translates into even more stupider kids…
Scammed is all the wasted tax dollars into the most stupidest investigations Congress (both parties) waste to make themselves look and feel good…
Scammed is someone not “really” believing the evidence that has been presented to them when “actual” WMD’S have indeed been found, albeit not a lot, but nonetheless enough to PROVE there is and was WMD’S in Iraq…
Scammed is the person who “really” believes tax cuts “actually” cost “us” money. Let’s see if I have that right:
Uncle Sam: Burt here is $10 of YOUR money back this week.
Burt: DAMN! I now have $10 MORE money but yet someone tells me it actual cost me money, Uncle Sam are you going to send me a $12 bill in the mail for the $10 you just gave back?
Uncle Sam: Burt you sure are funny, no there is no bill because it was YOUR money to begin with.
Burt: DAMN! Thanks bro…
Scammed is believing that just SITTING around on our ***, like in the Clinton years, pretending there is no bad guys who want to kill us, will make the world better and America safer…
Scammed is North Korea telling us, the Clinton years, “You can trust us” and then we actually do trust them. Now there is a major problem, scammed again by the gutless, blind and stupid.
Scammed is believing that Saddam was a good guy that would never ever hurt us, would never ever help any terrorist in hurting America, and believing if we just leave poor ol” Saddam alone everything will be cool…
Scammed is the mainstream media spinning a country that for over 10 years has ignored the ENTIRE FREE WORLD and REFUSES to follow through with it’s agreements and promises but yet somehow America has started a war for no reason at all…
You my friend have been scammed by the left leaning media into believing things that are just plain fantasy. I see the light and I know the truth and I understand what has to be done in order to survive. Just like President Reagan took on communism and WON the cold war we are now FINALLY doing something about terrorism.
If that cost me money out of my paycheck I will gladly pay, however there is a TON of cash, more then needed to take care of the priorities and mandates as stipulated in the Untied States Constitution.
Let’s completely cut and gut all the social programs (except Social Security since people have paid in to it) and start over.
This time they can ask us the TAXPAYERS “Can we afford this program?” Perhaps I may say yes but nobody should ever ask me “Can we afford a tax cut” because that is just absolutely illogical and a good reflection on how screwed up our education system is in America, it’s bad folks, its really bad…
If Grandpa “really” needs free Viagra pills then Grandpa had better have OUR permission first and if we say NO, tough chit, someone hand him a tissue because I really don’t give a damn what he thinks he deserves…

Actually Iraq was a “defensive” move. They did not follow the rules as set and voted on by the entire free world (those associated with the United Nations). Iraq did NOT remove and/or give up all their WMD’S which includes chemical weapons like Sirin (sp?). If you recall there was Sirin found when someone tried to use an old shell as a road side bomb.
Do you not care about the children of the working families?
