I like the cutting welfare idea and the more electric chairs is always a good idea but unfortunately you have to work around those who lack that will to make the hard decisions and use them. Cutting funding to the space program I can't agree with, space is our future. I'm a scientist and trust me when I say that as a country we can't risk falling any farther behind scientifically. A lot of innovations and useful technology that gets adapted to everyday use comes from the space program as well. It may seem like a luxury but we need to get back into space and start reaching out again, the program has been stagnant for too long as it is. There are a lot of resources and information, not to mention strategic advantages that we, as a country, and even as a species are going to need that are right there in our own solar system. Here is to hoping that it is Americans who boldly go where no one has gone before (cue Star Trek music)...

 

fatman, you had me right to the end when you queued the star trek music! There are good points to the space program, but I think the cost outweighs the benefit. I also do not want to pay for those that lack the will, only those that truly lack the ability. When you are killing or raping someone, you know what you are doing, and you know it's wrong. I don;t care if your mommy didn't hug you enough when you were young.

 

I, for one, would like to see a bill introduced...

It would be for everyone that votes to spend tax money on special interest projects, they pay for them out of their pockets. Likewise if you don't approve the project, then you don't pay for it.

So that would mean if I don't approve welfare I don't pay for it and I would be ineligible to collect it (but wait...I can't collect because I'm a homeowner).

I'm not talking about "common good" things like defense and general education. I mean things like urban renewal projects for somewhere far away where I will not travel or live, Foreign Aid , school lunch programs, rideshare programs, medical care for illegal immigrants etc... the list goes on.

You want it, you pay for. Don't take it out of my pocket.

 

Well, since this administration ISN'T going to cut all social programs or even Cut SPENDING in general, then you CAN'T lower taxes without spending money you don't have. So what's your point???

 

Tax cuts do NOT cost any money whatsoever, that is economics 101, spending is what cost money…

However I do agree with you about President Bush and his administration it’s as if they have NOT seen ANY spending bill that haven’t liked and/or introduced themselves. This administration, unlike President Reagan’s does NOT understand that liberals will NEVER EVER like them nor will they very often have anything good to say about conservatives.

Therefore one should lead by true convictions as President Reagan did, you lead how you see fit and NEVER worry about what your opponent is whining about (liberals). President Reagan proved that could be done but liberals have never proven it can be done because they can’t even run as a liberal since no one would, or very few people would actually vote for them so liberals are always behind the 8 ball since they have to lie to get into office…

 

The “Space Program” is an extension of the military and therefore must ALWAYS be funded. That who is in control of space controls the world to a VERY LARGE part…

This again is another issue President Reagan proved and was one of the last “sticks” that finally broke the Soviet Union and ended the cold war. Remember the “Star War’s” program? Since the Soviet Union was basically broke there was no way they would ever be able to compete with us and IF we had a functioning “Star War’s” program it wouldn’t have mattered how many nukes the Soviet Union had we would have been in just about total control…

 

Unless you cut the spending proportionally to what you cut the taxes (which hasn't happened), it WILL cost us money and be added to the deficit.

Deficits Cost money because you have to pay Interest on that borrowed money. That's poor money management.

Again tax cuts NEVER EVER cost a dime UNLESS your only funding the military and NO social programs whatsoever.

So long as social programs are in affect and there is plenty of money left over after funding the military then tax cuts will NEVER cost a dime its mathematically impossible…


For example:

Note: not actually figures
Federal revenue = 5 billion a year
Military funding = 2 billion a year
Social programs = 3 billion a year
Tax cuts = 3 billion

If you take 3 billion from 5 billion it leaves 2 billion and therefore tax cuts have not cost one penny…

Now you would have a 3 billion deficit but that is because there would be no money to fund the social programs, therefore it is “social programs” which cost money NOT tax cuts…

 

I see where parts of the space program can have value, but I don't see how going to Mars is helping. Since you asked the question, what is it you would cut and/or eliminate? Be a bit more specific than socialist programs, what one considers socialist, another may not.

After returning from Korea, my Dad sold tax shelters to the wealthy. He did very well until President Reagan lowered the tax bracket (70% under Carter) to 28%. President Reagan not only lowered the tax rate, but he also shut down all of the tax shelters. My Dad had to find another line of work.

 

As an Engineer in the Aerospace industry.... I say don't cut the space program. No, I don't work for NASA, or any other DOD contractor. There have been many usefull everyday items that were developed for use in the space program. Benefits of the Space Program I think is a huge mistake to cut a program that provides this much trickle down benefits. Consider, without the space program there would not be anything that uses a satelite, this includes cell phones, GPS, Satelite TV, weather mapping the list goes on an on. One of the reasons for the technical explosion in the last half of the 1900's was the space program. This program creates challenges like no other. I am willing to bet that there are very few areas of our lives that have not benefited from the space program.

Now for those lazy ba$tard$ on welfare... GET YOUR LAZY A$$E$ TO WORK!!! Nothing iritates me more than to see some able bodied person sitting around doing nothing, and worse yet expecting me to pay for it. Consider the fact that I pay over $300 a week in taxes. If stupid government programs were cut, I would pay only a fraction of that in taxes. Think of all the extra money that would pour into our economy. I can promise that I would have one modded F-150. Then all of the vendors would make more money, this in turn would cause the manufactures to make more money. The manufactures would then buy more aircraft and I would make more money. See how this works, tax cuts are a good thing. I for one will take all that I can get.

All these responses and all we can come up with is welfare and crappy programs? What are these crappy programs? Welfare takes a small portion of taxes and probably no more than half of the people on it are taking advantage which leaves about two cents of every tax dollar to be eliminated. Pretty useless cut. What are these uselss programs we need to cut?

 

Well off the top of my head and regardless how much money is saved there is two specific programs that could be cut and revamped.

One is welfare because there is a lot of wasted money thrown away. You have the actual spending money they get for their subs and McDonalds food, beer and cigarette money, you know that check they get every two weeks or so. Then they get MORE then enough money in food stamps, which that money could be cut as well. They should only get enough money to buy the “necessary” food needed and NOT name brand. If your paying for items with food stamps then it should be illegal to buy anything that is brand name “if” there is a plain box item that can replace it such as cereals etc. Meat, no good cuts of meat, no T-bone steaks, only the crappy cuts of meats should be legal for food items. No processed meats, you know like ham and baloney that is precut and package. No need for that either they can eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, they’ll be fine with that. Oh and NO ice cream and NO snacks of any kind, if they want a snack they can put some jelly on a cracker and eat that, that’s a snack…

Now on to their free medical benefits. If they make an emergency room visit that is NOT an emergency then they should lose $150 a shot out of their “spending money” check. They should be forced to wait in line like everyone else and make appointments for a visit with a doctor picked for them and EVERYTHING except emergencies has to be approved in advanced by this doctor, just like for everyone else who WORKS.

Now on to their free dental. NO FREE dental except for emergencies and routine teeth cleanings, fill cavities (only 2 a year). No free braces, if they want braces on their kids teeth they pay for it 100% out of their spending money. No teeth whitening only yearly cleanings.

Next program would be Social Security. Big time cuts there as well. First off it would be put back to its original form that is a retirement account ONLY. That means it would ONLY be for those that retired, widows of someone who paid in and children for those who had paid in but died.

No more using Social Security to give alcoholics free beer money, no more using Social Security to give druggies free drug money or any other stupid feel good programs that Social Security has been used for over the years due to liberals “feeling someone’s pain” I don’t have a problem watching an alcoholic or druggie become homeless due to their OWN problem, it is NOT an illness it is a choice, a poor choice and if we let them become homeless and stick them in the middle of the desert then more people will learn to make a GOOD choice.

That is just a few things that will free up some money. If it only gives me back 2 cents a payday then GOOD it’s MY 2 cents and not some schmuck getting it and wasting it. I can waste my own 2 cents how I see fit. Hell I might just throw that 2 cents every payday out in the field because it would make me “feel good” knowing I helped some lazy schmuck make a better choice in life since they can no longer waste MY money…

From now on I want Congress instead of asking ME how we are going to pay for a tax cut, which cost NOTHING, to ask me, the tax-paying citizen how are we going to pay for some stupid program they propose because EVERY program they propose does indeed COST ME and every other tax paying citizen money out of OUR pockets.
