Well....

I had all 4 of mine removed when I was in the Marine Corps. Naval Doctors are not gentle. Gave me a couple of shots, felt like he was using pliers and a rusty nail.

I was sore for 3 days, and I only got some Motrin for the pain.

Had all 3 of mine removed in a hospital due to the extent of impaction. 2 lowers were growing forward and were impacted. One top was never there or I lost it as a child the other top was crowding. It sucked. I got a dry socket that was very painful and had a reaction to codeine. No fun.

Do you people with three wisdom teeth only have to pay 75% of what us normal people have to pay for extraction?

Wisdom teeth are left over from the Cave Man days when by the time you were twenty, enough of your teeth had fallen out that there was plenty of room for wisdom teeth and you could still enjoy a juicy wholly mammouth burger until the ripe old age of 30 when anybody known as 'gums' was driven from the tribe.

I'm going to start tracking posts of the 'three toothers' to see if they are only 3/4 as wise as the rest of us.

(Just post as you normally would so you don't destroy the class curve)

the pain depends on if they have to cut your gums to get them out. some of my friends were able to just have their wisdoms yanked right out and there was no problem. one of my friends had to have his mouth cut open to get the teeth out. that is where the pain comes in. when that happens you have to worry about getting infections too. my friend still has an infection in his mouth after 4 or 5 months. that is his own fault. doc told him cigarette smoke and alcohol would infect his mouth badly, but he ignored.

Before putting braces on, the oral surgeon removed four of my regular molars to make way for my wisdom teeth and relieve the crowding (big teeth, small upper and lower jaw). I had a shot of novicane in each gum and the doctor went to town with a big set of what looked like ignition wire pliers. After much crunching and pulling, the four came out. I was in mild pain for a week or so, but it wasn't to bad. The braces were worse. They were constant dull pain for 3 years.

Just to clarify...
I've had three pulled and one is still there and not a bother. I'm not sure where this puts me on Raouls' new chart, tho.

Any thoughts, Raoul?

IMO, for the most part (aside from impactions/oral surgery/unusual situatinos/etc.), the anticipation of the procedure is worse than the procedure itself. Just got mine removed about 2 months ago, first my gums were numbed with topical novacaine (sp?), then a relatively painless injection of novacaine, and after about 15mins, they were pulled. All I felt was a bit of pressure...

I've pretty much given up on that for a while. Dead horse flogging and all that, if y'know what I mean.

The appointment is set for the 23rd...weee (the day after I get a cavity filled no less).

2 days of FUN FUN FUN.

When I had my dentist appointment last week I was reminded of Jeff Foxworthy...
Dentist: When was the last time you flossed?
Me: Hmmm...Last time I flossed...You did it!

Just had mine done on Thursday. My mouth hurts like a SOB. All 4 removed at once and they were pulled out whole.

I love the Percocets though. Feeling good !!!

I don't know what Percocets are but, if they were on the nurse you shouldn't have been looking at them.

How would you like it if your wife was a nurse and some guy spent his whole operation staring at her Percocets?
