Sometimes people can take statements out of context, and I apologize if you took my comment the wrong way.
Myself as well as all the other regulars on this board are in fact very compassionate, and would go out of their way to help the people who truly deserve it.
Since I think it is important to articulate myself more carefully, I will explain...
My comment about the lazy & stupid is not aimed towards people with disabilities or handicaps, it is aimed at the lazy individuals who are parasites and take advantage of the system for their own benefit.
Many of these people are in fact lazy, and stupid, and I feel no iota of compassion towards them because all they do is take, take, take, and give nothing back.
People with disabilities of any kind that need financial help are not the subject of discussion here, so if you took my comments in the wrong light, I hope I have clarified things for you.

01, my little sister was born with CP. She is stupid and weak. Social Security gives her a total of $6,000 per year and the state provides her with transportation to and from her job. Her job is a give me from a generous employer, because she really can't provide too much in the way of a valuable service. I'm sure they get a tax credit for employing her. Should all the libs stop fighting to get money for her? She's 34 and this is as good as it gets for her.
Hi momalle,
I am glad we (America & Canada) have programs where assistance is offered to the needy.
The social safety net is vital to our society.
It just gets so very frustrating when you bust your *** trying to eke out a living, and you see people all around you stealing from the system.
Another area of wastage is our corrections programs.
You Americans are not as wasteful as our stupid Canadian government who wastes zillions of dollars on the convicts, making sure they have "mini-golf" facilities, state of the art exercise equipment, and color-cable TV with remote controls in each cell.
My city has countless welfare bums loitering around downtown, begging for hand-outs.
If you offer them a job for a day to cut your lawn, they laugh and give you a dirty look.
I am sorry about your sister, and I KNOW 01 will feel the same way.
Most of us just get annoyed when the stupid, lazy bastards steal the taxpayers hard earned money.
I know I used the words "Stupid and lazy" but this is not the context aimed at you or anyone with disabilities.
Regards

I have always stated that those who “truly” need help and assistance like the medical disabled, the elderly (that aren’t loaded with cash, Bill Gates and other like him do not need ANY of MY money) and some others, people with legitimate birth defects etc if they need assistance I have NO problem handing over some of my cash…
However, I would be willing to bet, and indeed know from my keen skills of observation, that the vast majority of those receiving MY money are NOT in any way “truly” in need of help but rather the gang of idiots that receive MY money from goofy programs for Oprah’s audiences of destitute weasels… (that one does just roll right off the tongue don’t it?)
Those are whom I call the stupid, weak and lazy.
Am I wrong for that? Does nobody feel MY pain?

Perhaps ignorant and lazy is a better way to say it. You can't help the way you were born, or if you were the victim of an unfortunate accident and if you need help b/c of it well that’s ok with me. I don't have a problem giving assistance to those who can't earn their own keep but I hate giving assistance to those who can earn their own keep but choose not to. I don't want to work, but I don't want to live on the street and eat out of garbage cans either so I work. People who are ignorant and lazy, they don't want to work and are unwilling to support themselves and don't see anything wrong with abusing the system (and consequently stealing money from those in the system that actually need it), that really get under my skin.
Momalle, your sister sounds like a remarkable person, she works, even with a disability, she seems to be making the most of her life and that is impressive. There are too many able-bodied people out there that could be earning their own keep but prefer to let the government do it for them. That’s is why I donate to charities (about 10 different ones annually) b/c I know they give my money to those who need it. The government on the other hand may be giving my money to oprah watching "destitute weasels" when it could be better spent by me (through a charity) or at least funneled to a worthwhile government expenditure.

I had a roomate that couldn't handle the stress of a 9-5 so he worked out a lay off with his employer. And proceded to weasel 2 years of unemployment and SS. While sitting at home, wasting heat and electricity that I paid for, he would sleep till noon and watch TV all day.
These are the people that need to be thrown out on their a$$.
There is a simple way to motivate these people, and I think I heard this from 01 a while back. If the person is able bodied, but "can't find a job", then that person is bound to the state as a temporary contractor. The job can be fitting to the persons skills, or if they have no skills, will be appointed as needed. And as long as they receive a check from the state, they will be obligated to work for the state. If they don't show up, they don't get a check. The rules of employment would work just like any other job. The people will be elegible for benefits for full time employment, share equal wages within job classification and can be terminated based upon lack of performance.

Oh - and there would be degrees of "able bodied-ness". If a person claimed that they couldn't work because of medical reasons, they would be required to prove it with contact from their doctor. The doctor would be able to suggest work that the person could perform , so that disabled people or injured people could work with out hurting themselves.
crashz, there is part of the problem. I agree with you, but who will determine who is able bodied? That's another never ending arguement. And there will always be doctors that will sign anything as proven by workman's compensation lawsuits. I have a friend who was a mechanic, making good money. A car fell off a flatbed onto him. He's had to walk with a cane, and bent over since he was 30. He picked himself up and found another career, but many would use it as an excuse to collect. What did evryone do before there was assistance?
For the record not all doctors who see people for IME's are on the side or the injured party or on the side of the insurance. Some of them are actually unbiased. One of the 2 partners who started our company gets a little insulted & disapponted if an attorney says that he's just sideing witht he insurance company because they paid him. Our company is well know 9at least in MI) for its balanced opinions.

Here's a tidbit of info for ya...maybe a little off subject, maybe not...The U.S. has never gone to war with a country that has a McDonalds! I am in the military and have visited more countries than I have states in the union and can only come up with two, count 'em, two countries that I could not find a McDolalds... Greenland and Iraq.
crashz:
Yes, that was me that mentioned a program designed to MAKE ALL people who could actually work, work…
If they are receiving a welfare check and can perform ANY TYPE of work they will work OR they will not receive a dime, no food, no medical no nothing.
The question of “who” decides who is an able body and can work would be those in elected office. They, by what ever means they deem appropriate will write guide lines to determine who is eligible for benefits and MUST work to get them and who are NOT able to perform work or very limited work.
Some people may only be able to type and thus that is a job skill, they can type things up for the city or state etc and earn their keep that way.
momalle1, your sister receiving only $6,000 a year is pathetic. It is great to hear she is willing to do something and I do indeed feel for her and it is people like her that really get me pissed off towards the majority of free loaders out there.
If you could cut just 50% of the free loading there should be no reason your sister couldn’t get enough money to live a decent life. $6,000 is not a decent life. Not sure what is, perhaps $25,000 a year with medical, something that is debatable but I do FIRMLY believe there are people in need, like your sister and nothing irritates me more then seeing someone like her “trying” her best to make things work but being held back and SCREWED by the freaking freeloaders.
Since many people may think I just ramble on with no “real” evidence or experience I shall provide you with 2 factual examples:
First example:
When I was married and living in California my wife had a high school friend who had a 4 year old child. She received welfare, food stamps, medical, you know EVERYTHING that most people do NOT get unless their raking in some serious cash.
Anyway, any time her child had a simple nose run, down to the emergency room she went. It didn’t matter, a little cough to the emergency room she went. Wife asked her once why does she always go to the emergency room instead of making an appointment.
Her answer was she didn’t have time to screw around making appointments and it was just easier to go to the emergency room and PLUS it’s free.
Her friend had an opportunity to get a job because she was getting “bored” with staying at home all the time. She goes and applies and it was a little over minimum wage. She takes some time to figure out what she would make and determine she would lose like $5 a month HAVING to go to work rather then staying at home so decided it would be best for her to just stay at home on her FAT lazy ***…
Second example:
When my brother had first got married his wife, before they were married was receiving welfare because she had a 2 year old child. They get married and my brother asked when she was going to go down and get off welfare.
My brother was concerned because he was making approx. $1,200 a week at the time so no need for her to have a welfare check and food stamps plus he felt he was able to take care of her and her child which he considered his. Her reply was that it was HER MONEY and for him to not worry about it.
I suggested he call welfare and inquire if HE could be held responsible for her receiving welfare money while he was making the kind of money he was. I was right and they told him yes that since they are married they are both responsible for her receiving money of false premises, because she claimed she was not married etc.
He confronts his wife and basically she tells him to **** because it is HER money. So he asks me to go down with him to welfare to see what they could do. He goes in with his marriage certificate and wage earning statements and asks them to take her OFF welfare, shows them they ARE married.
They say NOPE, sorry, no can do she has to come down and do it. He asks well what if she doesn’t and would he be held accountable. They tell him YEP you can be held accountable and FORCED to pay ALL the money back should they find out the truth.
HELLO WTF I say, my brother just told you the truth, he rakes in major cash (at the time) and the bitch is taking you all for a ride and he does NOT want to be held responsible…
Well it took a lawyer to go down with my brother to force the welfare office to either take her off welfare or sign a document that stated my brother would NOT be responsible for any money since he had informed them of fraud…
You guessed it, he got off as far as being responsible BUT they still kept her on welfare, they got divorce a few months later…
What a system huh?

01, your brothers case represents the problems with loose beaurocracy and why I wouldn't want a state-owned doctor deciding who can work. I say cut them loose, they'll find work. The only problem I have with forcing them to work is that there are so many that they may cut into jobs for people that actually want to work. I'm glad your brother did the right thing. We're talking out of our butts at any rate, because I don't think we'll see any welfare reform any time soon.
