SPAM from registering

So far I've had a SPAM free email address until I signed up to this forum.

Guess what, now I'm getting SPAMed from auto related parasite advertisers like SaveAtThePump.com

Guess I should have read the fine print better.

dvickery

p.s. i don't want my email address sold or shared with anybody for any reason. go ahead and unregister me if you want...

so much for a SPAM free email address.

I've been here five years and you are mistaken.

Where else have you been?

And didn't you just register here today?

I would consider where you have used that address in the last month or so.

Are you getting e-mail spam to that account or are you getting 'Pop-Ups' on your browser screen?

i registered yesterday (Sunday) and today (Monday) i get spammed.

this is the only non-personal place i've disclosed my email address. ever. i have another email address that is spam infested that i usually use for this sort of thing but that mailbox is at max capacity and i plan to leave it that way.

i'm getting actual spam email to my personal acct (that use to be spam free).

no more pop-ups or pop-unders for me. hardware and software installed firewalls, pop-up/under blocker installed, spyware blocker and cleaner installed.

i've been to 3 sites that test for computer security and each one says i'm totally secure.

As I said, I am here pretty regular and with over 50,000 e-mail addresses and 1 million posts, you can count how many times this type thread has come up on one hand and in every instance it was determined that this site was in no way at fault.

The webmaster does everything in his power to protect us and this site.

I use my primary email account for this site, and I never get spam sent to it.

They all know I am broke, so they don't waste their time on me.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense that one would get spam as a result from registering here and 57,000 wouldn't.

Lay out all the facts as you know them in a post in the Questions About The Site Forum. The webmaster monitors that. There is no guarantee he'll see this one in General Discussion before it falls off page one.

He may be able to help you determine where your vulnerablity is/was.

good luck.

I can assure you with 100% confidence that whomever is contacting you by email DID NOT receive your email address from us. In the seven years I have run this site I have never once sold, given away or offered for sale or rent a single email address of a registered user on this site. If you choose not to believe that, that is your choice.

i registered at this site and now i keep getting these huge gasoline bills and calls from people asking me to help them move things. it must be Steve's fault and F-150online giving out my credit card number and phone number to people.

...oh wait, it's actually because i bought an F-150 as a result of coming to this site. maybe this site isn't half bad. i guess i'll stick around.
