A long road ahead...sad....
Just tell her to not give up. I'm a cancer survivor going on 2 years. I hear they have some new chemo drugs that just came out in the past year. I will add her to my prayers tonight.
My prayers are with you and Gail. Cancer is the disease in which I hate the most. My mother passed away at age 34 on this day 23 years ago. She had melanoma which started from a single mole. Advances in medicine and updated techniques give persons today a great chance of beating it and having a full recovery. I'll pray to the Man Upstairs that this is her outcome. Hang in there.
My prayers are with you and your family. It saddens me to hear your story and that of everyone who has responded with stories of their own. I don't know a single person that cancer has not affected in some way. It never starts out good but there can be good outcomes so keep your faith and never let your child see you give up. Facing serious illness is devastating at best but you have to be strong for that 8 year old because whatever you are feeling ?he/she? is feeling too and isn't old enough to deal with it on his own. Be strong, put your lives in Gods hands and know that prayers are coming in from all over to support you, Gail and your child.
I'll add your names to our Church's Prayer Intentions Book so the whole parish can pray for your family at every Mass & I will also be saying prayers for the 3 of you.
My Aunt & Godmother went back to the hopsital last nite & they feel this will be the last time for her. She has Multiple myeloma & now possibly leukemia from 1 of her long term meds. She's 78 & has been battling the myeloma (a blood cancer) for nearly 10 years. She wasn't in the best health to begin with & has amazed her doc's by lasting so long. That goes to show there's ALWAYS hope & with God's help anything is possible!
God Bless all of you & don't forget we're all here for you if you need to talk ok?
My love to Gail & your daughter.

Jim,
I hope she has a happy mothers day.
An Update:
Radiation began on thursday to attack the cancer in her spine in an attempt to save her mobility. Pain meds have also began as her back pain is not permitting her to get out of bed for anything. Yesterday, she actually walked (if you can call it that) to the bathroom once but that was right after a shot....
She's on constant pain meds now with a "booster" when anything is going to happen such as tests or treatments that require any movement......
The liver and breast invasions are operable but has taken a back seat to the spine problem. I was advised yesterday by her primary Doc that "these are her best days" and that it is going to be difficult to treat the cancer in her spine.......
Being a realist, I understand what's being said and done and I understand the upcoming trials and tribulations.... but it is my faith in God that will see me through and we trust that His Will be done in her life. Her biggest concern has been alleviated... and that's who's caring for our 8 year old......... she has some family that we don't allow our son to "go off" with regardless of the situation...... and I have him 100% of the time.
Thanks to all who have posted and others who have sent their prayers and best wishes. It is that strength that we are relying on.
