Englishadam... Here's a question for you.

Many murders have been commited by weapons other than guns. What about knives? Should we do away with knives? Can you do without your steak knife?

Scissors, bats, box cutters, pipes, cars, and most recently and horrifically, planes. Can you do without all of these items and many more? Where do you draw the line? If our legal right to own firearms is taken away from us, what is next?

You must remember, it is not the instument, it is the user.

Do pencils cause misspelled words? Did spoons make Rosie Odeonnel fat? I think not.

For all you tree huggin, bead wearin, kumbaya singin, birkenstock wearin, bleddin heart liberals out there, just remember that Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns.

...and next time you cut into your steak, think if you can do without your knife. It will be next.

i have several guns too.

for outdoor recreational shooting i have a super-soaker pump action rifle.

good resevoir, nimble handling, and a nice wide spout for quick 'on the fly' refills.

for indoor, more serious 'seek and destroy' work i use my nerf gatlin style 11 shooter. quick pump action , bladder indicator to tell you when your at pressure, and a nice 'light trigger'. for heavy indoor artillery i have the nerf, lever action, single load 'bomb launcher'.

this gun is not as quick as the gatlin, but when its fired, everyone in the room nows about it.

as far as i know, i dont need a license to carry these, so i am pretty sure i am all legal.

When I first saw the thread heading, I thought it was a totally different subject.

I don't carry a handgun; but, I am glad that I have the right to. It gives the confident way I carry myself, in iffy situations, more credence. The bad guys just don't know whether I'm armed or not. It's saved my *** on numerous occasions, I'm sure.

Why do want to know if I pack heat? Is it really any of your business? The less people that kow if you do/don't carry, the better.

If you want more information on the subject of firearms and carrying, I reccomend going to:

The point I was trying to make was about having a gun culture.
Of course, crimes are commited with other weapons. I could really hurt you with a rolled up newspaper but that wasn't what I was trying to put over.
It's much more difficult to walk up to someone and stab them than it is to shoot them. You will not get killed in a "drive by knifing" and you wouldn't have to worry about your co-workers going "postal" with a pair of scissors.
Sure, you can do lots of damage with an edged weapon but it's difficult to have something like the massacre at Columbine when ther is no easy access to guns.
When I was in Houston last month, I would turn the locasl news on at 6 am and the first 15 minutes would be about 3 - 4 people getting shot overnight.
This sort of thing just does not happen in the UK because most people do not have guns. If we were allowed to have them, it probably would because we are a violent nation.
Yes, people kill people not the weapons but the shoot first, ask questions later attitude that a gun culture develops makes it more likely that people will be killed.

36fan,

Due to the anonymous nature of a forum like this, I think it is a harmless question.

No one knows who you are, where you live or work etc.

And unless you have posted your picture, no one knows what you look like either.

Oh, yeah if you post from work/school, an IP address is pretty useless also

The truly sad part of all this is that if the laws currently on the books were enforced, we wouldn't have most of these problems...

I read about a year ago where the law enforcement agencies have admitted the crime rate in England has gone up because of lack of gun ownership. Crime is crime. Plain and simple. In Kennesaw, Ga the head of household must own a gun. That city has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. Compare that to Hotlanta, where you can't carry one. It is the violent crime capital of the US. Don't be out past dark in some parts of Atlanta, if you're visiting.

Well said Twisted and Frank.

English... Keep in mind that 2 of the bloodiest days in recent history were created without firearms. I am referring to 9/11 of course and the Oklahoma City bombings. No guns.

I don't know if you remember a case in Japan about 2 years ago. A man went into a school and killed several teachers and many students with a KNIFE! If I remember correctly, there were about 16 fatalities during that rampage that was WITHOUT A FIREARM!

Do you honestly believe that if right now in America, guns were outlawed, criminals would turn them in? The only ones who would, are the law abiding citizens.

Keep in mind that many of us have firearms for sport shooting and hunting.

Also keep in mind that there are more deaths annually related to improper care by physicians than there are by firearms. Think of that next time you do see your doctor.
