I don't see where the words "one nation under God" can be construed to be unconstitutional.
I agree. The governement is not respecting any established religion. I think the Court ruled that it was unconstitutional basically to say the government should not have any dealing with anyones religion or their right to not have a religion.

I think the basis of a religion is the belief in some form of god. So if one is atheist then they do not believe in a god and by default do not have a religion and cannot recieve protection from the Constitution.

Might as well get rid of the flag too and replace it with the Rainbow.

I hate going in depth, but here I go. If one does not have a religion (i.e. belief in a god) then how can any law or court decision concerning religion be a violation of thier right to free practice of a religion?

It can't. So if the arguement is made before a court that saying the Pledge of Allegience is a violation of ones religious belief because they are athiest, the arguement does not have any merit. Since the person making the argument has no religion how can any court decision or action by a governement entity be construed a promoting a religious belief or preventing them from practicing their religious belief? They do not have a religious belief to be violated.

It is due to these ideas I made the comment. It has been a while since I have seen the pledge written, but is god capitalized or not? The ones I remember seeing as a kid the word was not capitalized therefore no one religion was promoted above another. The only "religions" which could have been descriminated agaist are Atheisists and Agnostics. And as stated these do not qualify as religions.

Heres my 02cents in the U.S. Constitution, 1st admenment says

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It says that the govt wont favor a particular religion or belief. They classify Atheisists as a religion or belief. So by removing religon in schools (i for that in public schools) and removing religon everywere else the Govt is favoring the Atheisists not us. That just my thought. I want it to stay because it is tradition, it been that way since the start.
