Insurance rates, What do ya pay?
I pay $900 for 6 months for my F250 with AAA. (I have a couple of speeding tickets.)
When I got the F250, I called my Farmers agent, and she told me it would be $1400!!! So I ended up switching to AAA because my home is still insured with them.
However, since the house fire, I will be likely shopping around.

I had Allstate from 19 until last year. My dad had the same agent for over twenty years and I was getting the absolutely lowest price (<3miles to work on all vehicles, all safety discounts, etc) from them, but I think I paid the lowest insurance rates when I was 22 for a 99 F-150 Supercab Lariat 4x4, a Contour SVT, and the same RX-7. Rates doubled in 2 years.
Now, I have Metlife. About 15% cheaper than Allstate. I need a job that gets me a company car so I don't have to pay outragous insurance (or pothole damages).

I pay 1150 every 6 months for my Lexus LS430 ( I don't have the lighnting anymore...it cost less to insure it)
That's total coverage with something like 0 and 250 deductable....
I'm with State Farm and they are the best darn insurance company ever.
Twice I got slammed by uninsured drivers (not in this car) and my insurance company covered everything right away no questions asked.
They also coverd my house during the big earthquake of 94....again, they wree there the next day and took care of everything.
I won't shop around for the "lowest" rate of the week. I've had my auto insurance with them for 30 years now and their service is worth it.
OK...commercial off.

When I first got my truck, it was $800 every 6 months. Just before I got the truck,I picked up a 88 mph in a 70 zone. Got this bright idea to fight it without an attorney. Wound up costing me $320 for the ticket and now my insurance is $1300 every 6 months. This is a 2004 FX4 and 100,000 200,000 with 250 deductible with State Farm. Should have just paid the ticket and gone to school, would have been a whole lot cheaper.
Kobiashi,
You make an excellent point about NOT shopping for best price but rather shop for a company with the best customer support and one with a track record.
I too have State Farm and have been with them for about 15 years now. I wouldn’t go to anyone else. When I was young and stupid I use to shop around for the best price and got burned twice. Once by a company that went out of business and the second time by one of them insurances companies that don’t have hardly any offices but do everything by phone and drive out to see you…
Many times the companies with the best price are the ones that will screw you the first time you use them and/or give you a hard time and take forever getting your vehicle repaired…

My L is approx. 800 a year and I'm 31. State Farm is worth the extra 100 bucks a year for me as well. I haven't had a claim with them yet, but I have heard they are better than other when it comes to parting with $$.
State Farm rocks...
I got a speeding ticket once (on my way to Phoenix from LA). They set me a letter saying they knew about the point and the ticket, but would not raise my rates.
After 15 or 20 years with them, they make you a lifetime member, after that, no matter what happens you can't be dropped.
Heck, I could plow into the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant, cause a meltdown, take out half the state of California, and....I'm covered.
Rates in Los Angeles are some of the highest in the nation. We have half a billion Mercedes, BMW, BENTLEY, and the like driving around (so gotta cover those high repair costs) AND HALF A BILLION UNINSURED ILLEGAL MEXICANS driving around so we law abiding citizens gotta pay to cover their asses too.

Santa Barbara
I pay $359 / 6 months for my '01 XLT Sport 4x2.
Full coverage with $100,000/$300,000, $500 deductible. No tickets, no accidents, 50 years old. Good driver discount, professional discount. Ultra low rate zip code. 21st Century.
21st century making a profit on me - rate hasn't gone down a bit in the three years I've owned the vehicle - despite its value having depreciating by at least 40% ... in fact, they raised everything by 2 % last year ... I think because they offer a 2% "discount" if you're 50 or over and take a defensive driver course. So they jacked my rates 2% the year I turn 50 ... isn't that interesting ...
I wouldn't give you a nickel for any auto insurance company. It's all about money. I was struck from behind and had a car totaled by a friend who had State Farm - my experience with them very bad - I'd have litigated except that it was my friend who did the deed.
Allstate rated in a special category at the bottom all its own by Consumer Reports.

kobiashi,
I got one of them letters a year or so ago about lifetime member or what ever. Basically states I am guaranteed renewal for life…
They allow you a freebee ticket, so first one is free if you get a second before the first one is gone then it will cost a bit. I believe the ticket stays on your record for 3 years, then you get another freebee…

No one chimed in from NJ so I will. Here insurance companies always threaten to leave but never do, the profits are too great here for them.
There are alot of uninsured drivers on the road who simply cannot afford the rates they charge. We pay for those people. There is also alot of insurance fraud where damage is estimated way over the actual cost and insurance companies don't question it. We pay for that too. The state needs to go after these cheaters but they only get a slap on the wrist when they get caught. Impound uninsured cars, close down fraudulant repair shops for good, only then rates will come down to affordable levels for the working man.
Govenor Mc Greeddy campained on insurance reform, but like all other politicans, he did nothing but cave into thier threats of leaving the state and grant them rate hikes. NJ ranks the highest (or at least close to the highest) in car insurance rates in the nation.
BTW , I pay 2000/yr for my 98 2wd F150 and 2002 escape with full coverage, no tickets. I really had to shop around. Allstate charge me 3500/yr for the same vehicles and I was with them for 10 years (some loyalty). My nephew pays 490/month for his 2001 mustang, he's 24 years old.

What really gets my goat, and no its not Raoul, is deductible. I have a $1000 because mine, and from what I have heard most all agents will tell you that if you truck is damaged and it is less than $1500 or so you are better paying it out of pocket because the rate increase from safe driving dicount or increase if you are at fault will be more expensive over the long run. Had a Ranger and scraped a pole on the side. $700 damage,I had $500 deductable then, loss safe driving or no claim discount would have increase my policy by almost $200 every six months for 4 years so I was better off to pay out of pocket. After that I jumped all my coverage to $1000 deductable and saved $200 on each policy..
