Deer Population control

Deer Population control
Today while the DEC was inspecting an island here on the niagara river they found over 2 dozen dead deer on navy island.
they all starved to death. It was a sick sight. Now my opinion is they should have culled the herd using hunters, bait and shoot etc.. but instead of confronting any issues (with animal rights groups) they (the D.E.C.) simply let them starve to death. With all the hunger here and other places this waste of FOOD could have fed many many homeless/ other needy people. I am an avid hunter and to allow this is a travisty. It is a federal island and something should have been done to avoid this, its a real shame and i am ashamed to be a new yorker today.

Actually I think PETA is one of the most inhumane groups there are. They would much rather see an animal suffer great pain in nature then to admit its man responsibility to control things like you mentioned the size of herds etc.
PETA is one freaking weird group of people they just don’t seem to have any common sense when it comes to Mother Nature and animals…

I agree with 01 XLT about PETA, they would rather see animals dye this way than at the hands of a human.
Somehow they got my 15 year old daughters name on their mailing list and sent her a letter about them and ask for a donation to their cause. Now I dont remember why ,but this letter had a nickle taped to it. So my daughter sent the nickle back and answered their little questionaire saying she loves hunting, fishing, and the sport that goes with it. And to keep their nickle for their cause. God I love my little girl.
If you want to know, Petco the pet supply store is a sponsor of Peta, they have funded anti fishing and hunting programs for schools. My daughter and I have our ritual we do when we pass the petco around here and that is honk and flip them off and say Yuck Fou Petco..
Cant complain about Michigans DNR and they way they have handled over population of deer here. But, when our state is so far in the red and they fund 600k study to MSU to find out why deer cross the road.. I have to wonder

On my way to work this morning, a herd of 8 white tails ran in front of me!
Every so often they have special hunt in Indy to control the population. From the DNR people I've talked to it is a nightmare to set up one of these hunts. It requires around 5 years of population observation - solely for the hunt, not in conjunction w/ other research already being conducted.
I'm sure the deer I hit last year on the interstate appreciated PETA's efforts!

Ahh, DNR... I love those guys. They're a very close second to IDEM. LOL! (36fan will get this joke)...
PETA's stand would be that nature took its course... (not that I advocate PETA at all)...
Very sad to hear this story... sounds like thinning the herd with a larger limit would've been the way to go... I hate hearing about things like this.
