Geocaching?

Anyone doing it?

www.geocaching.com for more info...

Seems like it could be a lot of fun... good exercise, get to be outdoors... blah blah blah...

I think I'm going to give it a try for the first time this weekend.

Heh, my GIS teacher in high school was trying to get us into that

I left the school before he ever got it started so I dunno if he did or not.

Although he did get the chance to make me do a presentation for GeoTech

The one thing about that was the giant globe...almost went to the top of the gym.

My fiance and I tried this as our 4th adventure. It was a great time, spent about 4 or 5 hours canoeing. Unfortunately the cache was gone, but it was a helluva lot of fun. We pretty much stopped after that, but I'd like to get back into it.

Heard about, never done it.

There's suppose to be a couple of caches around town here.

I don't think that kind of technology works down in KY!

Got my dad a GPS for X-mas, we have found 5-6 around here. He has found more with his grandson, and by him self. Its fun, just be ready, dress for the weather, land, and watch for other people.

Hardee har har har.... I'll have you know that we got SHOES last week here in Kentucky!!!! THAT'S RIGHT! SHOES!!!! Eat your heart out Indiana!!

Seriously though, I went and found my first geocache today at lunch as it was located VERY near my office. I pulled one of the office GPS's out of the cabinet and went to town... very easy to find. The one I found had coins in it so I placed a wheat penny in there and took some sort of Swiss coin.

The wife and I have plotted 8 caches that we're going to try to locate tomorrow.... supposed to be 60 and sunny... got to get out and enjoy!!!

I have been cachin' for about 2 years. Found quite a few. I take my grand-daughter with me . It's like looking for buried treasure.

I work at a defense plant that makes GPS units for aircrew survival, guided munitions etc... The funny thing is no one else there geocaches. When I tell them about it, they look at me as if I was an alien.

good luck

Wow - The gov't must really be worried about the economy if they are starting to ship shoes to KY!

I had a cousin move down to KY a couple of years ago. He said he couldn't resist the financial benefits of moving to KY - he didn't have to buy shoes for his wife and kids anymore. Sounds like he might be moving back to Indy soon...

Yep, they started shipping shoes here and birth control to Indiana... gotta keep you all from reproducing...

I see a steady incline for the economy in the near future...

---

Also, found another cache today in one of our State Parks.

If they are worried about population control, the best way to take care of that is to close the bridge! I've seen the plans for those KY submarines - complete with optional screen door...

Oh, while we are on the topic , and I don't think I've mentioned it here, yet ... my wife is pregnant again!

Congrats but it doesn't look like that initial shipment made it to your place in time...

And you're right, they need to destroy the bridges. We'll have our own riverboat gambling in due time.

Maybe so, but Falls of the Ohio is on this side

RP (and others) -

Have you kept up with this? My sister was in town this weekend and I told her about it. We were at REI and I stumpled across a handbook, The Basics of Geocaching (or something like that). She seems really fired up about it. Geocaching.com has some pretty cool finds. I like the ones that are harder than just plugging in coordinates.
