Did you sand plasctic around window?
Hey, I finally got some Fusion to paint my the plastic around my back window, and i was wonderin if some of you guys that did it sanded it down smooth, or did you jsut clean it and spray it.
If you sprayed it and it still had texture, how did it come out? thanks

I had it done almost 2 years ago at a local Ford body shop.
They removed it, cleaned it well, and then added some plastic primer to the paint to help it adhere better.
It's held up perfect.

Personally I'd sand it smooth, though it's time consuming and this plastic is a pain to work with. Get a palm sander and set it on a low speed and go to work. Don't let one area heat up to much b/c the plastic will melt and be pain so smooth.
Once it's done make sure you give it a good coat of plastic primer so that the paint will remain flexible and adhere properly.

Dont want to jump on your thread but, is that plastic moulding permanently attached to that glass somehow or it is just a couple of clips holding it on? Do you have to remove the glass or can the moulding be removed is what i am asking?

I think i remember reading somewhere that you need to take the glass out, cant remember for sure. So can someone who knows say?
Habibi, how much did they charge you to paint it?

It has to be removed, and from what they told me, it's a major pain in the nuts and very time consuming to do it.
I was told the entire glass had to be removed from the inside, and once the gasket is removed between the glass and the surround, it can't be reused.
I wasnt there when they did it but I'm just saying what they told me.
I think I got a good deal.
I paid $399 bucks total (don't know how it came to that but I still have the receipt)
This included painting the following:
* Rear window surround
* Lower valance
* Tailgate handle
* Wiper Cowl
* Bug guard and window vents which I dont use anymore.
Most guys just tape around it, and spray while it's on the truck, and that can look good too, I just wanted to have it removed before it got painted because im a dink like that.
heh
Hope this helps.

Eh, I'm just gonna tape mine off and spray it myself. Probably wipe it down with some surface cleaner first, prime it, then spray it.
My truck is black and my trim is darn near faded to the point of being WHITE so even if it doesn't look show quality, it'll still be better than it is now.
