Maaco or other cheap painters...

Anyone ever had a vehicle painted with Maaco or someplace similar? I'm thinking about having my New Yorker painted, and was just curious what kind of work they do. I know they've started advertising they're now into body work, but still just curious. No one around here seems to have dealt with them. I'm not looking for show quality, but at least as nice as late model OEM, and cheap. There's no rust that I'm aware of (except a little surface rust on the hood), just a small dent on the rear quarter... I hear ads where they say something like "We'll paint any car for $299" does that includes jams? all sanding & prep work? any body work? the paint itself?

I know I should just go talk to them, but I don't have the car running yet, so I figured I'd see what ya'll had to say...

BTW here she is:

Not positive about Maaco but I used to work as a sander/pre paint prep at a place that was even cheaper, Earl Schieb. Jambs were not painted as part of the price but were an extra $20.00 or something like that. Basic prep was done but if a car came in with a lot of dirt or something we didn't wash it...just sanded the dirt off. The quality of paint is pretty bad as well. A paint job from there was good if you were getting ready to sell a car that looked bad and you just wanted something that would get it sold and make it look decent. It would not compare to OEM paint, but it would improve the looks a lot.

Hope this helps
Stan

Is that your Ford Truck in the back ground? If so is it for sale? My dad and I are looking for a Ford for our next project.

Sorry, not mine, and not for sale, but I do have a clean '56 Ford cab if you need one. Got it in Phoenix a couple of years ago...

A friend of mine had a car painted at Earl Shieb years ago...Results;

*painted over dirt and dust
*bugs in the paint
*drips
*orange peel
*lousey masking job
*sander marks on the chrome and glass

It was shiney, though.

Your car reminds me of my 1970 Plymouth Fury II I drove during my years in college.

It was old in 1983 and I wouldn't have considered painting it.
It was my best car deal though, bought it for $100 and sold it for $150 four years later.
