Nope. I can hear. The only time I can't really hear is when someone is standing away from me and speaking real softly. And of course there are those times that I just don't want to hear

I've never actually had mine measured lately, but I would guess that Im at least 60% deaf in my right ear...thanks to my genius doctors.

Warning: Possibly long story to follow...

I had lots of ear infections as a kid, so the docs put t-tubes in my ears. Good for a few years, got worse again. Tubes were supposed to come out on their own, never did. Doctor kept saying over and over that it would be fine. Finally went to a different ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) specialist; he took a 5 second look in my ears and said that they were coming out...NOW! Holy crap was he pissed. I think I was about 8 yrs old at the time. Right away he goes out to the hall and calls in a nurse. She comes in and he instructs her to hold my head still. Before I know it I see him comin' at me with these big, long, nasty looking forceps. He reached in and pulled out the left one, kinda hurt but not too bad. Went over to the right side, gives one pull and Im in a ton of pain, pulled again...harder and steadier this time. The most God awful pain imaginable accompanied by a extremely loud tearing sound. That tearing sound was the t-tube ripping a hole in my eardrum.

It had embedded itself in my eardrum, in its place now is alot of scar tissue. Not exactly very good at transmitting sound. Couple that with the fact that I have been around farm machinery etc my entire life, and lawn equipment (ran a lawn service), I have had some other hearing damage as well.

Oh well, gives me a good excuse to ignore the woman sometimes. "Oh Im sorry sweetheart, Im too deaf to hear your nagging."

Well I had a similar experience as MN4X4 as to why I can't hear out of my left ear. When I was in Junior High school I was riding home on the bus one day when this little punk kid had stuck a wet pen down my left ear. I knocked him away and didn't really think anything about it. A few months later, my mom decided to take me to an ear doctor because I started having problems hearing. They told me that my ear drum had started to deteriorate, as well as the three bones. I told them what happened and they said that the boys saliva had probably caused that to happen. So I had a 3 1/2 hour surgery and tubes put into my ears. So they said that they did what they could to the bones and to the ear drum but it had still deteriorated and that it would never be right again.

I wish I could remember who this kid was and give him some payback

My 2 daughters had tubes put in their ears when they were younger, and ever since they've had problems. To this day, they blame their mother(my ex-wife), who supposedly used to smack them around when they were younger.

They're both in their 20's, and still have problems because of the ear tubes.

My advice? -if the doctor wants to put tubes in your kid's ears-tell him NO!

I am not Deaf, but I was a Deaf Education major in College. I wanted to teach deaf children, and eventually own my own Deaf Day Care Center/Preschool.

I know sign langauge, and I love using it!!!

I wish I knew more Deaf people in my area.

I showed up one day to drive a schoolbus but they turned me away, don't know what their problem was they were looking for people to drive them...

Perhaps me carrying a nice shinny shotgun loaded was a deal killer...
