And The Winner Is....

HOPE

(name soon to change to Lexi or Meg)

You guys were totally correct in choosing the dog. It was a VERY easy decision. Hope came right over to my wife when we got there and sat on her bottom and just looked at her. After about 10 seconds of almost pondering and examining my wife, Hope tackled her; drenching her in doggie kisses. The other dog, Faith, was too busy chewing on my hand (and she did that START TO FINISH while we were checking out both of them). Hope presented herself as very laid back and calm (sure, she was a puppy so calm is a relative term) and she constantly walked over to my wife and I and just sat at our feet almost like she knew we were there to take her with us. It was uncanny. Hard to describe even.

To put it into perspective, we knew which dog we were taking home after about 30 seconds of being there. The VERY first words out of my wife's mouth (outside of 'whoa' after getting the doggie saliva bath) were "I think it's already clear which one is for us..."

Thanks again guys. I don't want the other thread to drag out like the lawnmower thread (you're still a bastid serotta! LOL!) so, I'll leave it at that.

As usual, you all were right on with your advice. It's nice to have you guys to come to with something like this!

We signed the paperwork tonight and, after her next two shots (which happen tomorrow) and after the paperwork goes through with the shelter, she'll be ours on Friday.

Nice choice buddy.
I'm sure you guys will be very happy with her.

Nothing like a new smell of "dog" lofting around in your brand new house

Yep, suggestion, crate train her if you haven't planned on doing so already. It will save you a lot of headaches when you guys are out, sleeping, or just not in direct observation of her. It'll save you from a lot of chewed up stuff and semi sleepless nights (other than the initial training). She might train easily if she's used to being in a kennel already. After she's house broke where you can trust her then you can toy with the idea of leaving her out at night or on the bed.

Enjoy your new family member!

And now for some real kids.

Could you imagine that? A little RockPick running around telling his little buddies to use Meguiars on their tricycles…

Watch out for those bait and switch doggie mills. Make sure you get Hope/Meg on Friday.

V.G. makes a good point about crate training her. My buddy with two Labs has them both crate trained since 7 weeks old. When they travel to their mountain house, the dogs take to the crate for the trip and still sleep in them without hesitation.

Cute dog, Good luck!

I agree with the kennel/crate training. Say "kennel" or "crate" every time you put her in, and praise her for going. She will soon go into the kennel/crate on command - it even worked for the doghousse w/ my (now late) pooch.

Actually, I've been so busy with work here lately that I simply haven't had time to get online.

Haa! I called it ! Viva El Segundo.

Ditto with the crate/air kennel/cage whatever you chose to call it. After the dog gets older you can just leave it open and the dog will go in & out as it pleases. Once they recognize the crate is their bed they will be less stressed out when you transport them in it.

Get the shots, rabies, parvovirus, & distemper etc. and enjoy a healthy poochie.

Good luck.

Yep... she's getting her shots. No problems there. The shelter wouldn't let me take her without them honestly.

We pick her up tomorrow night. We're REALLY excited! I guess I can get ready for a 'generally' sleepless couple of nights.

I was told to let her whine while she's in her crate.... ?

expect a lot of whining the first night.

it will be tough, but hang in there and let her whine. You can't cave in, as much as you will want to.

and make sure she has a lot of chew toys.

I would stay away from the ones with squeakers, this type of dog will chew until she gets it out and then might choke on it.

rope toys work well with this type of dog.
