And The Winner Is....
Hell, I bet it's the same formation that they were both mining... LOL! How deep is the LS in that area?
from http://igs.indiana.edu/geology/struc...l/comp3mzo.cfm
It's the Salem limestone, commonly outcrops are 60 to 100 feet thick along the central and southern, thinner to the north. Subsurface thickness of the Salem is variable, but in much of southwestern Indiana it averages about 175 feet, maximum depth is about 280 feet. It's located between Harrodsburg LS and the Blue River Group.
I'm surprised you haven't heard of it. Most houses that are made out of long skinny LS blocks are generically called 'Beford Stone houses'. It is a clean oolitic LS that weathers well (for LS in this climate).
As for the hat, I looked at the other thread first. "YOUR HOLE IS OUR GOAL" ... you may have to snag one of those hats for me!
I've heard of it and have actually done a thin section or two of it I believe (god, mineralogy just runs together as a total blur in my mind... in fact, after thinking about it, I've decided I need another beer... brb.)...
Okay... I'm back.
Not sure I can pull the hat off for you man... he only had 8 of them made with the 'YOUR HOLE IS OUR GOAL' logo and, being the avid and supportive client that I am... I got one.
