Wave Runners - Help me buy one L brothers!

I decided to cancel the Hot Tub idea for an Xmas gift and I'm thinking about suprising my wife with a Jet Ski (Waverunner style) or two. I'd like to buy something used so that if we never use them, we can sell them a year later without losing our arrrrses.

I have no idea what price I need to spend for a nice/decent one, or what year to look at, or what brand!

Anyone on here have any ideas?

Christmas is getting close!!!!

You have alot of options....first off, I dont' know what size you are, but that is a big factor....most 2 seaters do not fit 2 people comfortably. So you may want a 3 seater if what you are looking for is comfort and stability. The three seater yamaha's offer some speed and versatility. I am also a fan of the GP1200, nice all around ski, nice handling, and performance.

I am a HUGE Yamaha fan. I have a 94' yamaha waveblaster (see below) that has run FLAWLESSLY for years and I'm hard on it. I had a Kawi before my yamaha, and it was a good ski. While Sea Doo pump more power out of their engines, they are far less reliable, and their top speed claims are often off by more than 10 MPH. You will be putting a wrench to it more often, and I'll probably get flamed but I know my stuff pretty well.

So, what I'm saying is Yamaha, number one, Kawi, Second, Sea Doo/Polaris, don't buy em'....but that is just one person's opinion.

www.pwctoday.com is another good source of info.

Ed

Great info!! I knew there would be some knowledge out here!

I'm 6'3" and about 200lbs, my wife will ride the other ski, she's about 5' 7" and 120ish. I didn't realize a 2 seater was really good for one person, so that's nice to know. I need 2, one for me, and one for her, so a 2 AND 3 seater might be nice.

Keep the info coming!

I won't beat everyone out in the open, but on a course I'm tough to beat. I started with a 701, now I have a 785, billet girdled heads, umi racing bars, carbon fiber reads, interchangeable domes, msd enhancer ignition, primer, ported, factory pipe limited b-pipe exhaust, skat track J-prop, r and d intake, jet dynamics rideplate, dual mikuni 44's, billet couplers....blah blah blah blah....

If you ever need parts gimme a ring on IM

I actually didn't even really use it this year... I was out on the water ONCE over the summer with my sister and that was it.

I've been riding on my own since I was 5, passed the MD boaters safety test at 7 (that's gotta be good for some kind of record)....however now you have to be 16....needless to say, I ride a little more than once a year, even this year after my ACL surgery

I am sorry but I have to disagree with the Seadoo bad-mouthing. I am good personal friends with a fella that sells and services jetskis and he has nothing but nice things to say about Seadoos. Maybe you just had some bad luck I don't know>???

I myself have a 2002 Seadoo RXDI and love, just can't ride it. I bought it new in May 02' to ride with my buddy, well his motor blew(kawi Ultra 150 BTW) so not much riding got done that year. Just over 10hrs. Then I broke my leg so I went out ZERO times this year. My father borrowed it and took it out twice. So it still has under 15hrs on it. I love the thing. Does about 60MPH If I wasn't so fat it would go faster. HaHa. I have ridden 2 people plenty of times where as my buddy with the Ultra 150 can't even think about it.

Anyways I am looking to sell mine due to wanting to put a Built motor in the Lightning. It is a shame I will probably lose a bunch of money on it, but I also don't think my leg will stand up to riding it anymore. Maybe we can work out a deal on it. Have a trailer and two lifefests and it is winterized right now and ready to go for the nice weather, I had them do everything when I dropped it off to be winterized. Also has a new battery. If you are interested let me know. I willing to help deliver it too if need be. Thanks, -Mat-

I actually did some racing, and I also work with some friends at a Jet ski shop....the problem I see with sea doo is they just don't have the longevity of other skis. They have improved greatly in the past few years, and I imagine they are getting better and better....

They seem to be the favorite among people who are new to the sport, but tune into a race one time on speedvision and see how many you see on there....I'm not "bad-mouthing" them, just saying that in my experiences and a few of my friends, the durability just has not been there

Two prime examples were my buddy's Sea Doo Speedster Jet boat - both motors had nothing but problems from day one, he bought a GSX, same thing....I know they are improving, but my experiences with them have not been the greatest, I spent too much time tuning his and not enough time riding mine.

Sorry you feel that way. Everything has problems. If they are no good then they are no good. I am work on cars not jetkis. Oh well. -Mat-

My Truck has a rod through the block and I still love it!!, LMAO. You're right, everything will have a problem, and alot of problems occur when people don't take care of things....I've just not had great experiences, so I figured I would share.

So you are going to get jetski's instead of a hottub? Personally, I'd go with the hottub. Jetski's are a BLAST, but like any watercraft they are usually money pits no matter what you do. You get one old enough not to lose your *** on if you resale it and it'll have some kinks your probably have to work out from being old. What's that they say, "the 2 best days in a boat owners life are the day they buy it and the day they sell it". That being said, I really did love my jetski. You can use a hottub year around. Make sure you look into what's going around at your local lakes. The treehuggers (and most boaters) HATE jetskis and there are quite a few lakes they are banned from. It'd suck to buy jetskis and find out the only lake you can ride on is nowhere near you.

As far as the Seadoo subject goes, I didn't have but a few minor problems with my 96 XP. The general consensus is Seadoos ARE more tempermental if you don't take care of them, but they are the most fun to ride if ya wanna do more then just run a straight line, IMHO of course.

Here's a pic of my L & ski: http://fatbastard.drevil.org/~damon/...eadoo/ski1.jpg

Later,

By far one of the best ski's seadoo has made Probably their best handling as well.

If you ever get the chance to ride a yamaha waveblaster DO IT....it's hard as hell for most, but if you can get on and stay on it's a blast....handles like a stand up.
