Wave Runners - Help me buy one L brothers!
Whatever PWC you decide to go with, please be careful with it.
I've seen some truly horrendous accidents involving personal watercraft. People hitting a boat or rocks that they did not see and ending up with compound fractures. I saw one guy cut behind a ski boat, didn't notice the 1/4" taught ski rope and ended up with a deep laceration to his neck. My cousin worked on a woman with a torn colon. Apparently the two person PWC she was on went over a wave, she fell off the back and when it hit the water and the guy was still reving the engine and the water jet hit her.
I sail so I have to watch what I am doing. What I see all too often are people on PWC's having fun, but doing dangerous and stupid things. (I've nearly been hit half a dozen times. They always tell me they didn't see me. Somehow they also managed to miss the 35' high mast and the bright blue and yellow sail
) These people give a bad name to PWC's and are the reason they have been banned in a number of places.
Whatever you do, please make sure you wear a life vest and keep an eye out for hazards.

Last year, due to pressure from a friend, I went from dirt bikes to a PWC........ and had a load of fun all summer.......
I bought a used (stock) 2000 Yamaha GPR1200 (two seater)and nothing on the lake would outrun it....Not ONE problem with it .......sold it after the season and got most of my money back........ although it was great for the summer, I missed my dirt biking....... which I can do anytime......cold or hot.........
My observations concerning reliability was that, at least around here, Yamahas are defintely the most trouble free....... The bud I rode with has a Sea Doo GSX LImited (the bad-*** one) and also a larger Sea Doo that his wife rode. The Limited stayed in the shop more than he rode it and has had two engines put in it..... Now that being said, he definitely dogs the **** outta it while the other one still runs great since his wife rides moderately....... Around our group, which was comprised of most Yams or Sea Doos, with one Kaw, most of the guys with Sea Doos complained a lot about reliability and multiple problems with various things.......... some sold or traded for other brands............
As someone else mentioned, be careful.... you'll see a lot of dumb crap out on the water.........
