Unhappy My dog got hit

I went up to my parents Friday night to help my Dad do some work Saturday morning - we took the dog w/ us because we were going to be gone all weekend.

I got woke up Saturday morning by my brother telling my Dad that my dog had just been hit by a car. My wife and I rushed outside to find her limp body on the side of the road.

She was a great dog - a beautiful black lab mix that was barely 3 yrs old. I taught her several tricks - she would shake hands, go in the field on command, jump in the truck on command, go in her dog house on command, she would even take a drink of water on command. She would balance a milkbone on her nose until you told her 'OK' - then she would catch it.

My brother went out to go hunting, and she followed him. He sent her back to the house and she went - but she came back looking for him a couple of minutes later and he heard her get hit.

Here's a picture that was taken back in the spring:

This is the kicker - on a normal day, maybe 15 cars travel that road.

My condolences on your loss. Man's best friend truely is a member of the family.

The only comfort I can offer is that it was quick. My 11 year old Shepherd has hip displaysia and has steadily got worse over the last year. The day will soon arrive when I'll have to put him down and it will be a hard day for me.

Sorry to hear about your dog. Losing a friend is always a very sad event.
My son got me a black lab ('Tyson' - don't ask...) which proved a true companion through heartworms, diabetes, and cateracts (Tyson, not me). It was a very sad day when I had to have Tyson put down.
Since then my son has brought home a shepard mix (which he retrieved from a box full of puppies at Astroworld) and a collie mix (I think), which he found hanging around a gas station where he was living at the time. Perhaps another companion is in your future too. Best wishes...

Extremely sorry to hear that. I feel so sad when I hear something like this, sadder than if it were a human life. Dogs are loyal. I could not imagine how I would feel if I lost one of my dogs......

Very sorry 36. I can relate to your story as my dalmation got hit by our paper carrier when I was a senior in HS. The really bad thing was that they never stopped to check on her or even bothered to tell us that they had done it. Our neighbor, however, witnessed it...

I can relate and I'm very sorry.

When I was about 10 or so we used to have a German Shepard, he wasn't even a year old at the time. We lived on a inside corner lot at a 90 degree turn of a dirt road. Well me and a bunch of cousins were all playing the road and saw a truck coming down the road. All of us jumped out of the way and as he went around the turn, my dog cut across the front yard and jumped in the trucks way and was instantly killed. The guys in this truck came down a dirt road doing about 40 mph with a bunch of kids playing in the road and barely slowed down to make the 90 degree turn, then hit my dog and yelled out the windows and kept on going.

That was truly one of the saddest days of my life, seeing an innocent dog get hit by some **** that could care less what he done.

That happened to me a few years ago and I have to say it was one of the worst days of my life. My dog was hit by a boy on a motorcycle. Needless to say he never stopped. I know it is hard, but the best thing to do is get another dog.

Thanks all.
I'll wait until spring to get another pup - maybe next spring and let my daughter help pick it.

I miss her

Sorry for the loss, and take no offense to this but don't wait til spring.

Christmas is around the corner and a new pet would make a great family present. Nothing like a little puppy snooping around all the presents.

aww I'm sorry 36.

About getting a new dog... I am a faithful Dr. Phil fan and he says the smartest thing to do when you lose a pet is to wait awhile before you get a new one. Because if you got a new dog, everything that dog does will remind you of your old dog. And it doesn't seem like it'd be easy... just my opinion. Same thing when you break up with a boyfriend or girlfriend, you can't just fall in love again the next day. It takes time...

Best wishes to you
