Sorry for the loss, and take no offense to this but don't wait til spring.

Christmas is around the corner and a new pet would make a great family present. Nothing like a little puppy snooping around all the presents.
My daughter is only 9 months old now (she was about 6 weeks in the picture), so she is a little young to have a pup at Christmas, and winter is the worst time to get a pup. Puppies have problems w/ thermal regulation (staying warm) outside, and they aren't house broken either.

We have a half acre fenced in back yard.
When I first had the fence installed, I put padlocks on the 2 gates. Not because it would deter thieves, but because this way nobody could leave one of the gates open accidentally.

One of my neighbors biched about the gate being locked, and badgered me to take the lock off in case his kid kicked the ball into our yard.
After months of badgering, I finally took the lock off.

A few months ago, my wife opens the patio doors to the yard, our 3 dogs go storming out, and moments later all 3 of them are running across the street in the middle of rush hour. We live on the busiest street in the city.

Mysteriously the gate was left open, and the dogs all bolted across the street.
It was a miracle not one of them were hit by a car, I don't know how we got so lucky, but I will make sure this never happens again.

We got them all back safe and unharmed, but it was pretty scary. Now the locks don't come off for anyone. (I still get pissed off when I think about it)

I am so sorry about the loss of your pet.

I've lost a few that still tear me up thinking about them to this day. So innocent, loyal, unsuspecting, and undeserving.

You'll find a new friend when the time comes. I usually wait awhile, but I had to put down a cat before chirstmas once. She had health problems, but when I found she couldn't even enjoy sleeping on my feather bed anymore, it was time to take her in, and let her go. I couldn't stand to go through the holidays without a cat, (sounds wierd now that I am typing it, but I felt that way at the time) so I went to the humane society and got a 'used' one.
He didn't even seem to like us when we got to 'see him' in a stark white room at the MHS, but there was something about him . . . So we took him home. I guess it was 'his' present (new home) as much as ours. He is deffinately my cat. He literally hugs my neck with his paws during the day, and sleeps with me at night.

Good luck to you, and tell your wife we are all wishing you the best.

Wow, Habibi, that angers me just reading that. People are idiots (especially neighbors...what's up with that?) So what if her kid's ball goes over your fence... then he knocks on your door and asks you for it. Think if one of your dogs got hit... Thank God that didn't happen.

Yesterday was the first time (since we bought our house) that I've come home from work and she wasn't pawing at the gate waiting for me.

I loaded up her dog house and kennel and took them to the barn last night - a sad time indeed.

She loved to ride in the bed of my truck - especially when I had the camper shell on. She would prance around, and stand up on the wheel wells, or look out the back window and bark - as if she was saying, "Hey everyone look at me - I'm in the coolest dog house ever!"

Truly sorry for your loss. I have been there several times and know what you are feeling. Remember that she will never die as long as she lives on in your heart.

The Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears go up! The eyes are staring! And one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and you embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

This is truly one of the most depressing threads I have ever read. Just hearing about you guys talk about your dogs makes me want to get one. I have never ever really wanted to get a dog before but I do now.

I am truly sorry about your loss. I am sure I would feel the exact same way.

Habibi, when the time comes you will be directed to the Rainbow off ramp. From there you will catch a bus to the Not Too Sunny Depot. A transfer token will allow you onto the lower (and I mean lower) subway train to Big Mistake Blvd.

From there you will walk to a new place to dwell. It's down at the end of Lonely Street at the Heartbreak Hotel.

I'll already be checked in. Ring me and we'll do lunch.

Sorry bud........Whether it's my dog or someone else's.....This is about as sensitive as you'll ever see me too.

I love that poem. A friend sent that to me awhile back after I lost Coco my Springer. Only a dog owner truly understands the pain and the loss. To this day he still runs thru my mind every time I hunt with Luke, my new springer. I care more about my dog than 99.99% of the people I know - including the wife.

Thanks for the sentiment everyone. I miss her, but I'll get over it.

Now, let this morbid thread die - after all tommorrow is Thanksgiving! I may have lost me beloved pet, but I have been blessed in many more ways.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
