Jeep Wrangler ok for a Winter car?
Thanks for the reply. I know they are pretty good in the snow. They have a real small wheel base and then 4x4 if I need it.
The ride was always a little rough, but the car was almost 15 years old. The 97 I drove the other day had a similar ride. It isnt a bmw, but it rode ok. Any vehicle that will go off road, may ride a little rough on the road. Like I said, I'm not picky with how it drives. It would be a 2nd vehicle. I had a hard top. Whenever I wanted to remove it, I had to get a friend to help me. (i actually did it once bymyself. Not reccomended!) The hard top with a soft top as an option for springtime would be nice. I am not a fan of zipper windows either. Mine werent. They were maual roll up ones... I liked the old Jeep alot. That is why I am looking at newer ones now. I'm just wondering if there is anything I should look out for. thanks, Shane

The interior on the newer ones isn't that bad. I'd want 5 speed for sure, and a cd player is all I need. And heat. AC it will pry come with... I didnt know some of the newer ones had leather. Looks nice.

Is a soft top really a lot colder in the winter? (anyone know that for sure? Mine was a hard top and kinda cold at times... I'm wondering if the newer soft tops can keep the heat in)
Anyone else notice the newer ones not sure what year. But my 87 didn't do it. The new ones, the handle on the door apears to be backwards. (cause I am used to the other way) But you walk up to the door, and instead of grabbing the handle and pulling towards you, you have to grab the handle and kinda pull away from you. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I wrk at an oil change so I get in and out of a lot of cars. It really bothers me because my old Jeep was ok. The handle was on the "right way". Anyone else notice that and see the problem? Even if you're walking to the door from the front, it's still an issue for me because I'm used to the other way... O well it will just take some getting used to.
those seats have got to go!
Those seats are horrable! Man I like the seats in the other pic a LOT better. I am starting to get too picky. I'll never find what I want.
I'm looking for a red or black jeep with a black soft top. 5 speed 6 cylender with a little bigger than stock tires with decent looking rims. Is that too much to ask?
I think they look real nice with the tops off.

Well, no one has taken my wife's offer up yet so I guess I can give it away. She can give away one employee price plan to anyone to use by the end of this year. Want it? Figure about $1000 under invoice, minus whatever rebates there are or if you prefer special financing. A little more than you probably want to spend, but you can be picky and get exactly the options/color you want. If you plan to keep it a long time, got both hard top and soft. Yes, you will be cold in the winter with soft.
Get A/C. It is an option, at least on lower models. Many people think, oh, I'll just take the top off and save $800. No. What about rain in the heat? What about those sunny 100 degree and humid days?

I would go with the hard top. Since this is a second vehicle, once you take the top off in the spring, you can put on a tonneau cover on and a bikini top if it rains. I used to drive my Jeep from spring to fall like this and without the doors as a daily driver. As a second vehicle, you could take the L if it was raining or too cold out. Just my .02
APT and PNYXPRS thanks for the replies. Thanks for the offer on the discount on the new one. I'd like to keep as much money in my pocket as I can. I will pry stick with a 97-200 or so. I just don't like the seats. Can I get decent looking seat covers that won't look like the ones the ricers put on? I should be able to get ok seat covers right? I am looking for a 6 but I'm finding a lot of 4's why is that? I'd rather the 6 cylender. I also want a little bigger than normal sized tires. I think they look a lot better if they fill the wheel well up a little more. I'd like 5 speed and a black soft top. If I come accross a black one before a red one, that may be it. I have about another month to look. I was up all night looking at them. I got tired of looking at em'. So I'm taking a break.
Thanks for all the suggestions. If anyone comes by any more info can you please let me know. Thanks, Shane

thanks for the links. I think I am still registered on Jeeps Unlimited from when I used to have my 87 a few years ago. I will check them out, and post any more questions I have over there. Most of them were answered here or on the phone with some different Jeep owners/dealers.
I learned they didnt make them in 96. They took a year off after 95 and improved the suspension. Can anyone agree with that, that the newer jeeps 97 and up have a better ride than the 95s and below? He said they changed to leaf springs... I dont recall 100% exactly the conversation. The guy I talked to was trying to sell my on a 4 cylender they had in the lot. He said the 4 banger will keep up with the 6 till about 4th gear. I wasnt 100% sure on that, but he said it's got enough torque to do basic off roading, driving in the snow, and fine for a daily driver. I still would like a 6 because I've heard bad things about the 4 cylender motors. (he may be right, the 4 cylender may be fine in the jeep) I'd just rather a 6.
Thanks, Shane

Not sure of how many are like this or if you can get them. But if your looking at a few really close jeeps be sure and check the axle size. If you could get a wrangler with the dana 44 that would be nice if you happen to wheel or put some bigger tires on them. Now, i'm not sure thats an option (standard with the rubicon now
) Just something to think about.
Oh, i can weld back the inside of the door where the strap limits the door, just in case you open the door and the wind catches it and rips it off.
Done that before.

Yes, the 4-cyl is quite torquey, but there is almost zero different in fuel economy between the two and the highway power difference is huge. A friend of mine had a 4-cyl stick Wranger (dunno year). Would only go 75mph on the highway, 80 down hill. I am sure the new 2.5L is better, but that I6 is bulletproof. MY wife said she saw one being tested. It had a hole in the side of the cyl head and still kept going a while after that.
BTW, Cylinder instead of cylender.
