Well, without reading all the other posts in this thread here's my .02........

I have a Ryobi gas multi use (attachments) trimmer. I have the edger, trimmer, and tiller attachments. I've owned it for 5 years and it still runs as good as the day I bought it. The only thing wrong with it is the scwer that tightens the attachment on stripped and I jury rigged it back together and it's not as solid as I would like but usable.

I have no experience with the other tools, after what I've seen here I might stick with Dewalt, even thought it's pricey, my cordless drill is finally dying (batteries) after 5+ years. A new drill (9.6V) is cheaper than the batteries.

I use a corded electric blower on my yard wich is slightly less than .5 acre. A lot of sidewalk and driveway though. I would love a gas, but untill the electric one dies I won't be in the market. The Cord blows though. It gets tangled around the trees, landscape lights, and whatever else I might need to get around.

I think you'll be fine with the Ryobi gas blower. I don't recall seeing their other tools around till 2-3 years ago. I know they've been making gas yard tools for I believe 10+ years. I would buy another gas trimmer plus unit again when this one goes, but I would be open to another brand if it's more feasably. I notice Home Depot and Lowes don't carry much of the gas yard stuff any more around here.

RP,

I think that many of the attachments are actually universal in nature. You should be able to look at how your unit actually transmits power to the terminal end and see if other brand implements will work. And yes, mine is a straight-shaft trimmer which has a coupler at about the midway point that allows for the attachment of other devices.
