Need opinions on this truck...

I am new to this site, and I am currently shopping for an F150 SCab. I found this one and went to look at it yesterday. F150 SCab The exterior paint is in excellent condition, the engine compartment was very clean, and the interior is in good shape. They grey seats (cloth) seem kind of dirty, but otherwise fine. What I didn't like was where the driver gets into the cab, along the floor board the paint was worn away and a bit rusty. I can easily sand and paint that though, but also did not have a hitch. The undercaraige also seemed to be coated.

Two questions:

1) I offered them 18,500 for it (still waiting to hear back). Does that sound good for this year and style truck.

2) I have always been a Mustang person and know what to look for as trouble signs in a Stang. Can you tell me what I should be looking out for in this or any other truck I look at.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

I think $18,500 is still a little much for a 2001 with that many miles on it. Check edmunds.com and kbb.com and they come in right around 18k for that truck dealer retail. However, at least around here, there are SO many of these for sale that they aren't fetching full retail. This is also because of the huge discounts on the new ones.

IMHO, if you are looking to spend that much, you can find one with a lot less miles and more options (towing pkg, power seat, offroad pkg, etc..).

Good luck

Yeah, I think that's a little overprice, you can get an 03 scab in the 20 thousands I beleive...

Yeah, I would go about 16,500 on the truck. Looks awesome, though, and not too many miles!

I put your truck in kbb and it listed for around $19,955 in my area (couldnt find the area code for that dealer).

If I were you, I would put the VIN into carfax and make sure it is clean before you put anything final on it (or any truck you decide to buy).

Thanks for all of your input. I did the KBB and the Edmunds report. KBB came in at $19,400 and Edmunds came in at $18,600. This is why I offered $18,500. The dealer has not called me back regarding my offer, so I have a feeling they won't accept it.

One thing I have learned over the years is to follow your gut instincts. And there was just something about the truck that is not sitting with me right. Not sure what it is though. So I am walking away from this truck for now.

I am going to look at a 99 4.6L tomorrow. I'll let you know how that one turns out. I really wanted a 5.4L (I'm a HP junkie), but the right truck at the right price my sway me to the 4.6L. Every time I search for a truck, this truck keeps popping up. I ran the KBB and Edmunds, both came back at $16,200. I figure, since it keeps popping up, I should at least take a look at it.
