Indian Princess

Some of you may have heard of this, many may not have. This is a group that I and my step-daughter recently joined. It's a father daughter thing that the YMCA has. One of the things we have to do is come up with Indian Nick names. I figured I would ask here since there are so many creative people here. Thanks

Which reminds me of that great old joke:

A young indian boy was very curious about how all the Indians in his tribe got their names. He asked his Mother and she said the old Chief names everyone. She suggested he go ask the old Chief.

The boy entered the old Chief's tent and ask if he could explain how he picked the names for all the new indians born to the tribe.

The old Chief said that he would name the child after the first natural event he witnessed following the child birth. For instance if an eagle flew by the teepee entrance, the child was named Soaring Eagle. If the wind was blowing, the child was named Whistling Wind, etc.

Then the Chief said:

"Why do you ask Two Dogs F**king?"

One day, an Indian brave asked his Father, "How do we get our names?"
"Well", the father replied, "when your older brother was born, I rushed outside our teepee and the first thing I saw was an eagle soaring through the sky. I called your brother Brave Eagle."
"When your sister was born, I rushed outside again and saw a Dove flying past so she became Little White Dove."
"I understand now" said the brave.
"I'm glad you do, Two Dogs F*cking, said the father.

I called him MR. Hawk because he was a teacher, but his freinds called him smallfire.

he is a class act. i loved it when he talked about the underwater B'B stacking and the underwater basket weaving classes people took(thats what he called the classes that didn't teach you anything)

Personally, I wouldn't join ANY group that required that you become someone you're not..............even in a nick name.

It is way past time that we HONOR our Native Americans and this nickname crap seems too much opportuity to poke fun as the examples above readily show.

By all means, let's take any opportunity to turn this into a politically correct debate. I agree in part with your statement DonnyD, but I don't think a major organization such as the Y with it's Indian Princess group had any intention of poking fun at the American Indians. So let's get off your painted stallion and get a grip on reality.

......just for the record.....

1. As well as being a Native American (born in U.S.), I am also of American Indian descent with tribal and clan affiliation that originated thousands of years ago in the U.S. (similar to what the Irish and Scottish have/had).

2. Of course the YMCA is only trying to develop programs to promote family interaction, which is a good thing. They are just uninformed.

3. The Indian princess theme is not factual in tribal government.....not now, nor 1,000 years ago (there are over 500 distinct tribal governments in the U.S). That is a theme that was facilitated by immigrants. In the twentieth century, with European influence, many American Indian tribal governments began having "pageants" for selecting a "princess". However, these are superficial in nature and the "princess" is nothing more than a "good will ambassador" and not an actual "princess".

4. Making fun of the idiotic Indian princess stereotype/theme is one thing, however, I will not tolerate anyone attempting to make fun of American Indians.
