Anybody here into Home Theater??

I know we all talk trucks and just wondered if anyone has translated their passion of a vehicle into the home theater area.

Personally, I've always been an audio addict since I discovered car amps back in 1977 and since then I've always had a good system in my vehicles. In the early 90's, in came the Home Theater craze and I immediately jumped on the wagon and must say, have built myself a very good system..... Anybody else???

My HT system is comprised of:
Yamaha RX-V1 Receiver
JBL L100 "A" mains (Sound on steriods)
Veritas 2.2 "B"mains
Veritas 2.0C Center
JBL Sat 2 : rear centers
Energy RVSS: rear surrounds
SVS 20-39PC sub (this thing shakes the neighborhood)
Aura Pro Shakers (these shake my ***)
Toshiba 55" HDTV
Toshiba 4700 DVD
A large collection of DVDs

I sure spend a lot more money on HT than anything else too and constantly buy and sell "stuff" just to try it out. I've had my old JBL L100 since 1978 and nothng I've tried has been even close to them in dynamics............

Anyway, I'd like to hear from other HT fans so we can talk about more than TRUCKS sometime....LOL It's going to be winter sometime and truck polishing will be reduced somewhat......

I almost bought an SVC sub before my brother convinced me to build my own. Excellent products!

I did a lot of research when I bought my stuff, but just don't have the time or money to keep upgrading. I am pleased with my system's performance for now. Anyway, here is what I have.

Denon AVR 2801
Custom front and center channel speakers based on Accoustic Research 206HO speakers - long story
Pair for standard AR 206HO speakers for the rear
Pair of 15" Dayton DVC subs - each in custom 7cu ft ported enclosures tuned to 18Hz
Samson S1000 for the subs (480w at 20Hz into each)
Sony regular DVD player
Sony 32" regular TV
DirecTV Tivo satellite receiver
And of course my Radio Shack remote to control it all

The upgrades I am interested in doing at some time in the next couple years are build my own set of speakers and a Plasma TV.

I've got one on my PC, Kenwood KR-6600 reciever, then a surround 9.2 Kenwood speaker system, real good sound! This is where I listen to most of my music, so that makes sense to have it on the PC.

I have a PC jack to Left/Right converter on it, real easy.

I have also been an audiophile since I had my first 4-track tape deck. He-he

My background in industrial electrical is intensive, so my home theater system is a work of art and a sight to behold. Most of my equipment is high-end Sony with a mix of various other manufacturers. The last time I had to take a portion of it apart, it took me all day to put it back together (even after carefully marking everything).

Sony 36” and 27” PIP TV’s (want a 60” LCD-no $)
Sony 700w. Amp 7.1 dolby/dts (optical inputs)
Two Sony 5-disc DVD progressive scan carousels (optical)
Panasonic DVD burner deck (optical)
125 gig Tivo (120 hour Hard Drive)
Cerwin Vega speakers (12” front/8” rear/center)
Sony 200w. and 100w. powered low frequency emitters
Sony and JVC VHS VCR’s
15” LCD TV
Custom built CCTV (low lux/high res) system-w/ sound (my own design)
Monster 3 cables tying it all together ($4000 worth)
APC 1250 UPS provides spike/surge protection for all equipment
Various other “do-dads” and “high-tech junk”
Large collection of 5.1/dts music DVD’s
Small collection of DVD movies

Each of these components is linked together and can operate independently. This system allows for watching three separate programs with four different programs being recorded simultaneously. Each component may have it’s audio and video routed separately to any other component. The CCTV can be burned onto DVD, hard drive or tape separately or simultaneously. Part of the main system is routed into the bedroom so the CCTV may be viewed at any time (keeps an eye on my Lariat at night).

I have several close friends that have been in the A/V business for a long time and even they are befuddled by the complexity of this system.

You also have two pillows on the couch and what appears to be a crumpled blanket.

Yes, that's right! (No comment on system; just about screen reflection).

But the shot I almost uploaded had an ad for O. B. Tampons on the screen. Almost didn't notice it.

Didn't comment on the system because it's about 200 times better than what I have and you called it MODEST. I've been looking for a year now and still can't decide what to do. Eventually I'll get off my slack butt and do something about it.

Thanks for passing on the tampon commercial.

ok i have about $5k in a system but here is the real question, who has a system and a wife or serious girl friend, and actually gets to play it the way it was meant to be played?

next house i am building a sound proof, windowless room with dark walls, approx 12 x 15 with a split level floor, the back of the room will have a 1 foot step up so all can see the tv, 2 leather chair here. a nice couch in the front part of the room. i am building a small closet behind the tv so that i can keep the cable strait and change equipment with ease. a small restroom in the hall right outside the room so restroom trips are quick and i f one of the buddies drops the bomb there are 2 doors between it and the tv. i want built in cabinets so that the tv and equipment is flush with the wall. 1 big tv with a smaller 32" on the side for surfing and a switch to go back and forth between the 2.
any other ideals for a mans ht room.

here's mine, it's a slightly old pic, but it looks almost the same now as it did then. I have a new mouse and a a printer sitting in front of the big speaker on the right, the other 6 speakers are not displayed.

I love it.

I can see why your a broke Marine...

I'd like to get a home theater system but not sure what to buy. I have no idea when it comes to systems like that. What's a decent system to have for around $400 - $500 out of the box?
