What happens if you are on Active Duty, or you're a Reservist/Guard member called to Active Duty, but you still have matters to attend to back home? What if you're overseas and can't make your credit card or mortgage payments? What if you have issues outstanding in a civil court?
The Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act SSCRA provides a wide range of protections for individuals entering or called to active duty in the military. It is intended to postpone or suspend certain civil obligations to enable service members to devote full attention to duty. A few examples of such obligations you may be protected against are:
outstanding credit card debt
mortgage payments
pending trials
taxes
terminations of lease.
I had a young troop that was deployed, she had many financial problems that I got involved in while gone. Sears reversed late payments and worked things out quite well.

If your in a trade then I can understand a union, but McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Sears etc, no need for a union...

Can't speak for all WalMart's, but the one in my town seems to hire illegal immigrants, by the amount of English that they speak.

I am very proud of sears for taking this stance.
it really is good to see a big corporation who takes care of it's employees and supports our country and our troops.
I've been on the market for a floor jack to haul to the track. I'll be stopping at sears for that purchase!
later,
chris

Doing the right thing cost more money, and you rarely get credit for doing so.
I know of a large telecommunications company in the South
that tries a little harder at being a good citizen, but rarely gets credit for it:
1)All employees regardless of length of service may apply for military leave of up to 60 months.
2)During military leave all benefits will continue to be paid in full by the company, including life insurance and dependant medical.
3)Any difference in military pay and company pay will be made up by the company.
Keep these things in mind next time you decide to go with a cut-rate dialtone provider.

Its always good to have your employer standing behind you when you get activated. I know of several people who got activated and lost their jobs. I know that isn't supposed to happen, but that doesn't mean it doesn't.
I work (worked?) at Home Depot before I got activated. I had probably only worked there for a little over 2 months (I had just got back from active duty) but I still recived every thing I should. Not only do I have a job when I get back, but Home Depot said they would pay the difference between the two, but I make more on active duty. Not only that but I recived a letter from the president of Home Depot (of course a form letter) and a picture of a (of my) Blue Star from their HQ in GA, which they have a star for every HD employee called up. Later I recived a DVD that had a music video and message from HD saying that they "miss me" Then even later I recived my share of the stores bonus for doing well in sales
They also have "Project Homefront" in which they help families of activated soldiers keep their house in order. I don't know exactly what they do becuase I don't need that (I don't have a house
) They will keep your job for 5 years too, so even if you join the active army you can get your job back if you want to.
Overall, I have been pretty happy with HD and am able to be focused on other, more important things then where will I be when I get home.

If Home Depot is going to pay the difference, just tell the Army you don't want to be a Colonel anymore. A lot less headaches and the same money.

I don't know how to do it, bit when this thread is at a natural end I sincerely hope someone can forward the entire set of postings to the proper folks at Sears.
I saw one post where someone did this as an individual (or was it two individuals?) and got a nice response.
I am sure they will be quite happy that this little band of tool shoppers (lifters if you count Raoul) that also happen to be Ford truck owners are well aware of their support and will get our support in return.

I was one of the ones that sent them an email and I encourage anyone that feels strongly to do so as well. webcenter@sears.com
One of my main subjects I applauded them for was doing what they are doing and NOT using it as a sales or advertisement issue, at least not that I am aware of. To me that prove they are really doing it because it IS the right thing to do rather then doing it for self promotions and looking at it as a profit enhancer…
I spent $140 the other day in there and was thinking about lifting $20 in the name of Raoul, but didn’t have the nards to do so…
