Ford, Chevy & Dodge: Why the Animosity?

I'm relatively new to the truckworld and whatever truck I buy (so far the 04' FX4 has REALLY got me hooked) within the next 2 months will actually be my FIRST truck. But, one thing I have always wondered is why is there so much hatred (and yes, I do mean HATRED) because Ford, Chevy and Dodge truck owners?

I mean personally since I haven't been in to trucks that long I'm pretty neutral and I consider Ford and Chevy to be both great trucks (not really a fan of the Ram's after having driven one...Frankly, I do think that Dodge's suck haha), but when someone just MENTIONS Chevy or Dodge all of a sudden everyone gets like super twisted about it.

So, my question is: was there something in the past that these other truck manufacturers have done with their trucks to **** off truck owners that led them to having a personal favorite truck. Or is everyone just ultra biased based on what they buy?

Example is that I'm not going to think that Chevy's suck if I buy the FX4 and I'm not going to think that Ford's suck if I buy the Silverado. Right now I'm just looking for answers and making sure I make the best decision.

So, please don't give me any crap about "get your stupid chevy out of here" or whatever because I'm only asking a question and if you make a comment like that then you're only showing that you're bias anyway so your comment is meaningless. I need an ANSWER.

Any help? Basically, I'm asking you to SELL me on the FX4... why I should buy it over a silverado, etc.

I don't hate another truck. I just dislike all other manufacutres. I dislike chevy because they break too often. I dislike Dodge, well because they're dodge LOL I dislike Nissan and Toyota, because they're toy trucks. I like Ford, becasue 1. I own one and 2. They're built really well and I have NEVER had a problem with it.

BTW, it's had only two owners 1. My dad 2. Me.

Chevy's simple SUCK....

That is not hatred but rather a simple fact of life…

Here is an example:

You’re speeding down the road and get a ticket. You go to court and the judge tells you to pay a fine. Now that just outright sucks, right? Of course it does, but it doesn’t mean you hate the justice system does it? Or does it?

Yes that is. My friend owns a 94 s-10 2.2L, the tranny gave out at 60k, muffler rusted out at 85k OEM replacement tranny gave out at 86k alternator died at 91k tail gate handel broke at 91k

I think that's enough...

Edit: when I say rusted, I mean the whole freaking thing was rusted with multiple holes. From the headers to the muffler, was all rust, and a nice long hole.

haha not sure I'll count a 94' in my listing seeing as how I'm not buying a 94'... i'm thinking more along the lines of 2000-2004 models and how those are handling because I can remember pretty much every truck being crap up until about 96'-98' year models and having a bad truck one year doensn't make the whole line of trucks thereafter crap..

cause if it did, then the 04' F-150 4.6L would be garbage because they are all ready doing a recall on them

Test drive both of them and then get prices from at least two dealers with each brand. You'll get a good truck with which ever brand you buy. GM's trucks did have a rust through problem years ago but they use treated metals like everyone else does today.

The 04 150s are beautiful machines and it sounds like thats what you really want. Just be sure to shop price and no matter what anyone says there is no deal that has to be signed in one night. Plus if they know you have talked to GM you may well get a better price than if you waltz in telling them how much you love their product.

Good luck whichever way you go.

By the way I've owned both brands.

That's easy:

Dodge: (Blow trannies every 4K (my uncle did that) ) Plues they look stupid now.
Chevy: Look uglier by the minute, rustier by the second, more expensive to upkeep than your income for the whole year.

Ford: Best selling vehicle in America for the past 26 (i think) years and they look good, are built to last... and the list keeps going.

Plus, Ford has a nice ring to it... unlike "Shovie" or Dodge...... Plus Ford is resonably priced.

Also, one last thing, If you have a Ford Truck you get to hang out at F150online!! That's one of the best parts

Well, Chevy's suck, because my Ma's new boyfriend's oldest daughter's hairdresser's huntin' buddy's new vet's oldest brother's mistress' dad has one, and the tars keep losin' air... I think he ran over some roofin' nails. Sees how he's roofin' the shed, and he likes to drive out there to it. So, yeah Chevy's suck... have to... Ma's new boyfriend's oldest daughter's hairdresser's huntin' buddy's new vet's oldest brother's mistress' dad wouldn't lie 'bout such a thing!

...and as far as Dodge, well, I once knew a guy who knew a guy that worked for a parts place that sold Dodge parts, and they sold a lot. So, you know that means Dodge's must really suck!

Okay, really Chevy's are great trucks... My Dad has a 2000 Silverado, no problems. A good friend of mine has a new HEMI quadcab, great truck. I love it almost as much as he does. I've got several friends with late 90's Ford's, Chevy's and Dodges... They're all great trucks, and they all have problems...

I bought a Ford, because it was the best deal/cheapest. If I could've got the same deal on GMC I would be driving a GMC right now.

Go down to Hertz, Enterprise or whoever the local rental is, and rent one of each. Find out what you like, and don't like, then come back here to find out the goods and bads about the Fords, then find a Chevy/GMC board to find the goods and bads there... Don't listen to us about Chevy's (I personally like them, somethings better than my Ford)... but ultimately get what you like... plain and simple...

Ford is much easier to maintian than a chevy. I worked as a fleet mechanic at a truck rental, we had everything, mostly Fords. The GM's were just a pain in the A$$ to work on.

I had 1 Chevy P/U that kept killing the batteries, it was a glove box light that got wrapped(taped in the loom) up in the wiring harness, never installed in the proper place, and on since a battery was hooked up.

I have so many reasons and stories about GM abortion jobs it makes me sick, to this day I refuse to work on one, Family included!

The Dodges had alot of tranny problems, and how about a fuel filter thats mounted in the tank?! good thinking there HUH?

I had a wood chipper with a 300 4.9 ford six, it took to knocking one day. In the rental business, if it's not rented, it's not making money. Quick turnaround is key here, so I ordered a short block, waiting for the day it would let go, I would be ready.

Well a chippers life is 4000 rpm for 8 hours a day, I figured it wouldn't be long.......................WRONG, that thing went almost 15 months with a rod knock, the crate the short block was in became a break table, often getting pulled out of the corner and put in front of my box, with a table cloth ,fine china and crystal set up on it.

It finally did let go, an old man who was renting it said" those Ford sixes, when they start making noise is when they just get broken in"

My 87 is still going, I tune it up every year for the new owner, 196,000 mile, still18-19 MPG.

There is a reason most fleet vehicles are Fords.

Cool responses guys thanks Yea, I've all ready test driven the Silverado and the one thing that I sort of didn't like was that the steering was very loser. Felt kind of like there was no power steering or that there was no tightness or grip with the ground when you would turn the wheel.

I'm waiting to test drivet he 04' but Ford's being gay by not really having them available in California. It seems that you have to live in Texas right now to even see an F-150

Now dont get me wrong, I love Ford, all 3 of our trucks (see my gallery) and our car are Fords (actually the grand marquis is a mercury, but its just a re-badged ford crown vic).

But anything you hear here about Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge is going to be just a BIT biased

In MY experiences, Ford has been the best to us. My dad's old F350 lasted him 18 years, and then he sold it for $2000 and it was still running. That was in 1995. Then we bought a suburban, diesel, 4x4, and it was nice...and then the problems started. The fuel injector pump died about every 18 mos. We would be driving, and all of a sudden the accelerator just would not do anything. The engine was running, but we could not accelerate. Obviuosly this is not a very safe thing to have happen (once it happened in the middle of an intersection while turning left and we had to coast through it)...So we bought an '02 F-250 Superduty Crewcab, 4x4 lariat w/ 7.3L PSD

Dodge: not any personal experience there. A friend at school had one that had I think 150k+ miles on it. But Im not really even sure about that.

But we are a Ford family
I dont think I could convince my dad to buy another Chevy, after his experience with that suburban...

Just my $.02

So what it's coming down too is that a lot of people either had problems with another truck WAY BACK WHEN and ever since then their entire opinion is based on that? I guess I can understand that, but from my own experience a lot of trucks were crap in the mid 90's...

As far as the 2000 year and beyond I haven't really heard any problems from any maker except Dogde (lmao!)...so I think i'll have a tough decision to make...but the 04' F-150 is just so sexy that it's definitely got my attention at the moment... i'm just a bit questionable about the fact that they are all ready having a recall... that's never usually a good sign...but at least they are fixing the problem early.
