New truck??

Yo everyone- This is my first post on this site and want to get your opinions on a new ride for me. Right now i have a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3l 4x4 and currently looking at a 2001 Ford F150 4x2 xlt 4.6l black reg. cab step side with 24,000 miles. It looks like it is in damn good condition..... the reason for a change is that the Silverado is just a tank and sucks on gas.... like 13 mpg. WIll the 150 get better with that? I am planning on opening up the air a bit with a new intake and exhaust if I do get it. So should I trade up??

That's a pic of my ride now ... please no flames on it ....

and heres the one i want to trade in one:

I want your honest opinions ... and any mods you think I shud do if i get it

well one difference is that you are moving down an engine size.

I don't know the exact figures, but the 5.4 Ford can't be that much more efficient than the 5.3. But you are looking at the 4.6...

And yes, the 4.6 will do better than that. The better news is that the 4.6 is a rock-solid engine that should give you hundreds of thousands of miles.

Personally, I think the Chev is a nice truck. Unfortunately for GM, I just think Ford is a little nicer.

Ok i test drove it today and am very impressed The only thing that bugs me is there is a ticking noise in the engine when at slow speeds. It sounds like it's from the engine .... i don't know what it is or where its coming from but it doesnt sound right... any ideas on that? Other than that I'm very impressed

The ticking may possible be the injectors. It is somewhat common on Ford’s. At least from a lot of reading I have done here. Do you know of any “trusted” mechanic friends you might be able to have listen to it to see what they think? Another idea is to post the question about “ticking” in the Engines forums and see what you get for answers.

It is really hard to say just what it “might” be without actually being there and hearing for yourself. I also believe the average mileage the 4.6 get is somewhere around 16mpg.
