'97-98 models have a mechanical speedo/odometer cluster. If you have changed your rear gear or added taller tires your speedo will be off. Try a SEARCH on "Calculator" in the "Other Drivetrain" Forum. There are a number of calculators on the web that allow you to plug n your rear diff ratio/tire size/ etc and it tells you what speedo gear you need (18 teeth/19 teeth/whatever)

The removal/install of a speedo gear takes about 5 minutes and requires no special tools. The part costs less than $20.

When I changed my 255 OEM's for 265 pirrelli's I got a new speedo gear. I recently found the recipt in my glve box and it was $6.49 from the Ford dealer.

Here's a suggestion...if you want people that may have the ability to answer your posts, use descriptive and relevant subjects. I would ignore a post with the subject "what's the dealio?" In addition, please use our classifieds for items you are looking to purchase, not the forums. Thanks. Since the original thread is pointed to here, I am closing this thread as it does not belong in this forum.
